Logged Descriptions  (logged by 26 users)ByDate of Ascent
From Peat Syke junction to SE on tracks and firebreaks. Had a little scramble at the top; now in mist. Ate bilberries; the red leaves a beautiful pre-Autumn spectacle.Wycombe Wanderer18/08/2023
Walked up forest roadia Ellis cleugh then up fire break. The terrain is quite difficult initially in fire break but improves. A steep pull upto the crag then a faint path along edge to trig pillar. Good ling distance viewson a sunny day.cjo10/06/2023
Drove Forest Drive to just beyond Blackblakehope, parking at a track junction (NY 7582 9987). Took track heading NE, then flirted with a break that was heading NW, but it deteriorated so badly had to backtrack and take the logging road heading W until SSW of Ellis, then a better break (starting NT 7435 0042) took me to base of the crag.jonglew09/06/2023
From Forest Drive. Up the forest road 500m W of Blackblakehope, then up the firebreak. Don't be put off by the thick heather as it soon goes to give a relatively easy passage if you stick to the firebreak on the 25k map. Up on to the crag and along the edge > Ellis Crag. Takes a bit of effort but worth it on a clear day.JohnR05/06/2021
Bagged this top when collecting Trigs. Unsure of the date, a retrospective log.Andrew Simmons18/12/2020
Car near Blackblakehope. Forest track to 743.003. Easy ascent in fire break. Scramble through heather to the crags then trod along the 'edge' to the summit.Moorponder17/10/2019
Route as moorsman. Followed overgrown firebreak from 743,004 N to 742,009 [firebreaks on OS map don't exist] then along line of old fence then up through deep heather to crag. A nice craggy top with great views, but a nightmare to walk once you leave the forest track. Herd of wild goats on the crag - at least 9, probably more.Crib Goch06/07/2019
Revisit due to failing to reach the trig last time. Parked on the forest drive where a forest road branches off north west half a kilometre west of Blackblakehope (alt 297m) Hoped to take the forest break heading NW off this road but extensive logging has obliterated it. Instead, found a tiresome route a short distance east which, although short, was very tortuous due to reeds and partially hidden streams. Took far longer that anticipated. Also, the summit ridge has hidden, deep holes which will sink you to up to your waist of you go into one (yes, I did). 5.38km Return. Just over 90 minutes.moorsman02/09/2018
With Jo, from Blakehopeburnhaugh: followed tracks to quarry, then fence to top. Visited Three Kings Stone Circle on return. Saw 3 wild goats and a deer. Weather; cloudy, cold wind, good visibility.amblerbob11/05/2018
From Wool Meath, pathless heather with a sketchy path in parts, with some of it rather hard going. summit a nice spot on top of the crag. Descended ENE for 400m to forest track turning circle, then tracks and paths to Byrness, an easy route once track reachedAlanD27/04/2018
Forest ride then walk from 752.997 as RHW. 'No-entry logging' signs higher up, took very overgrown track NW from sand-pile at 7430.0039. Emerged from forest, followed fence round (rough) then up to crag. Faint track along top to trig. Returned via logging area (no activity), seemed slightly easier - but going downhill!Aye Jimmy12/09/2016
Cycled to turning circle at 753014 and then followed fence line 400m to crag for final climb up to trig point. Excellent views on bright sunny day.andy08/09/2007
fine heather/crag hill, good view. Forest Drive, walk from 752997 then clear fell/boggy ride & open heather slope RHW28/08/2004
Ascended in pouring rain and low visibility during orienteering event. Impressed by its situation in forest, so walked back to revisit 06/09/1999.JohnW21/06/1997
