From Slack Head. Parked in pull-in, about 40m NE of Hillcrest Drive at SD 49291 78839 - Along RoW to cairn on crossroads, turned left & up RoW to gate on high point of track - Through gate & took a faint path on right which led to a small cairn on tree stump at SD 48884 79041 - From there, SE for 50m or so across bramble & fallen trees to summit area; thankfully, this was relatively free of bramble..gerrybowes29/02/2024

Good parking within Beetham village, I used the small dead end road between the pub and the main road, the A6. Back into the village and straight on ... or rather a jink right and left. After the last house a good path leads up into the trees. As often happens, to reach the true summit involves a dense tree bash.moorsman13/07/2023
Parked at 49321 78913 in Slack Head, back down the road to the fp between houses, up to the 4 wat path jnct with a little cairn, left there up to a gate at hp of track then across a brambly 100 yds or so to summit.clivevilla15/04/2023
Mudfest to nowhere. 1x parking space near post box at SD492788. Multitude of no access signs leaves the PFP as the only option to follow N then WNW, through mudfest to 4-way path junction at SD489792 from where a fenced corridor PFP heads S over the plateau to the Fairy Steps. This fencing and numerous Private, No Public Access signs along this corridor clearly set out the landowner's policy on denying access to the high point. Even if one did ignore the private signs, in full public view on this popular frequented route, the vegetation looks like an obstacle course.Isbjorn15/02/2022

HP indistinct within mixed woods on limestone. Short thrash through brambly undergrowth from track gate made bearable by a profusion of ripe blackberries to be eaten. Parked in layby to N and followed RoW to near summit.Denise 02/09/2021
From road to N, forest track to gate at SD4887,7909 then brambles and logs to wooded summit rise. Nice sweet blackberries.RichardM02/09/2021
The true summit is virtually unreachable, due to undergrowth and felled trees.JohnW23/06/2021
From Gaitbarrows, over Haverbrack. Over gate and vague path through brambles to top. Down Fairy Steps, no Fairies!Flatfield20/03/2021
The brambles wouldn't have been too bad if it wasn't for all the fallen trees !conanharrod22/02/2021

From Beetham via Fairy Steps, with Colin.Andrew Pearson17/11/2020
From Fairy Steps, direct line over fence, through rough ground with tree stumps and brambles impeding progress. Overgrown cairn on raised area looked as high as anywhere. KeithByTheC04/11/2020
Walk from Arnside to Beetham via Fairy StepsJohnIvor29/09/2020
From Slack Head followed paths around to gate at crest of path and then fought way through to top. Would not be much fun in summer. Then went to the fairy steps.PeterD30/12/2019

2/2 Handy parking at 489 798 in a layby area. Walked from here up the road and onto footpath leading straight up to Haverbrack Bank. Returned to use path leading off right which says footpath to public road. This spits you out a few yards North of the path which leads you into the Fairsteps. It is signposted Slackhouse. Follow this all the way along, climb up via the fairsteps, and then access the woodland for Whin Scar. Easiest way through the brambles and bracken by crossing the fence slightly East of the level land above Fairy Steps close to a little limestone scar clamber - the wire is lowered a bit there anyway. We found very feint tracks up to the summit, still a bit rough but helped flatten the brambles more easily. Took 15 mins each way on the rough stuff, so it's not for long.nickywood109/11/2019
The first time I've set out with the intention of bagging a Clem! The fairy steps are great! Fenced off area is pretty rough, not one to take the kids or dog to. The woodland itself is lovely; saw lots of deer. Solo.Dangerous Dave11/06/2019
Up from Slack Head. Area has been substantially felled & is a bit of a mess. On own.MorecambeMonkey25/12/2018

Parked at foot of Hillcrest Drive, Slack Head. Fp sign well covered but excellent fp when found through the woods. Summit is in felled woodland. Rough underfoot.Campbell Singer05/06/2018
With MGT, LJT & PDT. From Beetham, en route to Fairy Steps.ADT24/03/2018
Last of the day before walking down into Milnthorpe for a pint and a 555 bus back to Carnforth.JOHNS17/03/2018
Had to park in Storth as nowhere on road to west. Took route from Hazelslack which runs dead straight through to Fairy Steps, which are brilliant and a mini version of something out of Lord of the Rings . I was told if you get through without touching the sides you will see a fairy.Mark Sims14/03/2018
With Fenton - excellent dog walk. Beautiful clear and crisp winter dayChris Terrey 08/01/2018
Footpath SD493790, follow 'Fairy Steps' indicator on the cairn at SD488792 to summit then into rough to find the lichen covered cairn and neighbouring high ground.Eddie18/07/2017
Final hill of 62 on the 2017 annual Lakeland visit. RoW follows up through woodland to a gated area where larch have been felled to prevent spread of disease.jonglew11/03/2017
2nd ascent. This time with Darren after Thrang Brow and road jog and up via Fairy Steps - failed to squeeze through without touching sides -so no fairies appeared. Then onward jog down and back to Milnthorpe to complete a 6 tump circuit.Last hill of our weeks bagging trip and 7 nights camping across N England.Chris Pearson30/07/2016
A pleasant progression from Haverbrack Bank. Traversed the higher ground in the vicinity of the mossy cairn to make sure as I couldn't discern which square metre was any more prominent.summitsup19/09/2015
From Slack Head as per nordicstar. Top now felled.arranc24/05/2015
Arnside - Haverbrack Bank - Whin Scar - Thrang Brow - Cringlebarrow Hill - Yealand Hill - Carnforth. The summit isn't much but the Fairy Steps and the limestone crags in the woods are a gorgeous adult adventure playground. A wonderful area to explore.Jake99402/05/2015

An outstanding hill on my list of Clems -before discovering the world of Tumps. Had previously got confused climbing. from map memory a 'similar but not quite right' wooded hill 2km south! A wet afternoon after visiting Broughton for pet siting meeting then long way back detour via here to Windermere(brother). Stiff legged after Cheviot OMM previous w/end.Chris Pearson31/10/2014

w Jenx from Slack Head. Park up at top by three way junction, walk back 200m to path leading to 'Fairy Steps'. As Jim B directs, small cairn at path junction shows the way. From highpoint thru trees can see the raised area or rib as Doug refers. Cairn is towards SE end. High point approx mid way but not distinct. After top go check out the 'Fairy Steps', old path thru a narrow limestone crack in a small cliff. Neat!nordicstar26/04/2013
Parked at Slack Head. Circuitous walk through wood in heavy rain to high point of path; summit not obvious from here. GPS took us to it, grassy 'ridge' with large trees at end. Also a sizeable mossy cairn 60m away at other end of ridge.Aye Jimmy14/04/2013
With Alf and Andy. From Fairy Steps many large fallen trees on the south east of the main path to Beetham seem to point towards the summit area. The northern point of an overgrown rock outcrop seem to be the highest. All is trees.mick07/02/2013
Followed footpath from road to South East and then struck out through the wood to the summit.Alan Caine22/01/2012
Hard to be certain of the top and trees mess up GPS.peebs12/11/2011
As Jim suggests, I found a higher rib of raised ground following his directions then headed back east to path and found a largish cairn before joining the path a bit further south than I left it and lower than path high point. Either could be high point.Dugswell211/11/2011
Followed the Limestone Link from Slackhead, signposted 'Fairy Steps'. This turns L after 400m. At path highpoint, SD 4887 7908,turn L and head SSE for about 100m to a raised area in the mature woodland.jimbloomer28/10/2011
