2/3 Parked at the Hareden Farm entrance where space for a car up on the road. Past farm and up the footpaths to the foot of Mellor Knoll, then back down ridge to pick up the permissive path directly up fenceline onto Totridge back down, through woodlands and over to Long Knots. Then completed a circle using lanes and paths to Dunsop Bridge and back. Nice February walk. Memorial to Bill Smith on Totridge. An LDWA Member I believe who perished on Fairsnape? Think I am right. | nickywood1 | 05/02/2023 |
Failed attempt of Mellors Knot prior, so will return to area. Herd of Cows on the summit did NOT want to welcome me and Dog, tand duly marched us back down. In no mood to play games with 20 plus tonnes of beef. | Alfa1M | 17/11/2022 |

As gerrybowes. Steep and unfit but fine views made it worthwhile. High humidity is my excuse for slow going. Onwards to Mellor Knoll. With Andy. | Campbell Singer | 06/08/2020 |

From Hareden. Tripped on the steep climb and a reed went right up my nose, giving me a minor nosebleed. Breezy, sun and cloud, quite mountainesque for these parts. On to Mellor Knoll. | Wycombe Wanderer | 25/09/2016 |
Continuation of walk from Mellor Knoll. Dropped down east to a boggy col, then followed a permissive path all the way south-west to the summit. Returned by outward route. With AT and JT. | Man of Kernow1 | 04/09/2016 |
Much of the Bowland Fells was once out-of-bounds as here where the water authorities denied access due to a perceived risk of the public polluting the water of the catchment area. (see the circular walk in Wild Walks which obediently encircles this moor ). A fitting tribute plaque on the trig to legendary fell-runner Bill Smith who died on a solo run across these moors at the age of 75. He produced the 1800 page long epic 'Stud Marks on the Summits' - a history of amateur fell-racing 1861 -1983 which became the fell-runner's bible, which you can't find for love nor money (I once had a copy from our library). He extended the 42 peak Bob Graham route to include 63 peaks under 24 hours. | Chris Pearson | 24/07/2016 |
With Jo, from Hareden. Bridleway to Mellor Knoll and then permissive path onto Totridge. Weather; sunny, warm, visibility was good if somewhat hazy. | amblerbob | 05/06/2016 |
Start at phone box, up Burnslack Fell and along top following the wall. Down to coll before Mellor Knoll and back via Lower Fence Wood. Will save Long Knotts for another day. Very wet on top and some cloud. | Andrew Pearson | 03/03/2016 |
From Hareden via Mellor Knoll. | Wheelsy | 20/06/2015 |
Started at Sykes Nab - followed Longdon Brook to the castle then ascended though the heather up Fiendale Nab to its head. From here we trek across the peat (following the fence - it is Bowland!)to Fair Snape Fell - open bleak expansive. After bagging the summit we visit the trig then Brown Berry Plain to Totridge (another trig) the down. Good Access - no problems | briandavies | 19/04/2015 |

First dry day in a long time ( and sunny too). Nice walk from Hareden Farm to the top and then down via Hareden Brook. | Debs61 | 16/02/2014 |
A straight up and down from the main Trough of Bowland road. The flatter section of the hill was very wet, the steeper section was very firm underfoot even though I was following the grassy permissive path. | JohnStoneham | 03/02/2014 |
Ascent from Hareden Farm as part of a round including Long Knots and Mellor Knoll. Very wet underfoot throughout. | rb | 01/01/2014 |
Parking available at the junction with the Hareden road. If including Mellor Knoll do this one second as it will allow you to cut off the final corner on the way back, saving a considerable distance. | moorsman | 02/10/2013 |
From Hareden Bridge via Mellor Knoll. Direct ascent up hillside following wall/fence and then a fine zig-zag path for final steep bit. | Aye Jimmy | 30/07/2013 |
Started NE of Dunsop Bridge SD632511. Circular route Langden Brook - Fiendsdale Head - Totridge. Scenic to start but monotonous peat hags and bogs for much of the rest. Alone. | Saggers | 01/06/2013 |
From Syke on route to fair Snape Fell | adrianturner | 18/08/2012 |
Walk with Ollie. Very long and tiring. Had to climb out of valley up stream start with no path. Ollie fell in mud. Lots of heather. I fell in mud on descent. | MattD2010 | 14/04/2012 |
Parking near Sykes, walked by the river and up to Totridge, the route across to Fair Snape Fell was just a swamp of bog with no signs of a path, probably the worst bog I've ever came across after 8 years of summit-bagging, got to Fair Snape Trig and summit eventually, then headed north across nearly impassable bogs until finally finding workmen putting flagstones down, the path down Bleadale Water clough is newly improved all the way back to Sykes, all in all a good day out. | DanTrig | 13/04/2012 |
From Chipping after Fair Snape Fell. A lovely summit with great eastwards views and dramatic slopes. Very much enjoyed this one. | Jake994 | 14/01/2012 |
Done on several occasions on local walks. | parlick | 27/11/2011 |
Parked north of Hareden and used bridleway to collect Mellor Knoll, then continued SE on signed path to Totridge. Dry clear autumnal day. Top either trig or moorland 20-25 metres west of trig. Had a good walk around just in case. | Dugswell2 | 05/11/2011 |
From Trough of Bowland through to Langden Castle and ascent of Fair Snape Fell on route to Totridge Fell - returned to parking spot in Trough. | knarf | 06/08/2010 |
Climbed with Fair Snape Fell. Very difficult terrain, deep ruts and bogs for miles. Ended up rescuing a group of school kids doing their Duke of Edinburgh. Would only attempt again in summer. | Lazylizzie | 14/03/2009 |
