From Splash Farm caravan site and return. 5km circular route. Through the woods with bluebells at this time of the year.Malcvolm13/05/2023
Had to cross what seemed to be a stile in the wall where rocks had been set as steps. Beautiful views. Walked with Ellie.simonshrewsbury07/02/2023

Parking available on the public road leading to Hearthstone Farm and holiday cottages. I parked alongside a field entrance about 100m before the end of the road. Easy, gently rising walk to the field alongside the summit. When reaching this field follow the wall to the right, through the trees, to a climbable gate which gives access to the summit knoll.moorsman09/08/2020

From farm track off Riber Road to NNW. Could drive almost to farm and park on wide pavement/hard standing at SK 308 584carole engel31/12/2017
HP is outcropping rock within grassy sheep pasture with gorse. Close to the RoW . Approached from Lea Bridge carpark with good views of eerie- looking and now apparently deserted Riber Castle. With Zoe and Sophie Gordon walking off large turkey dinner.Denise 16/12/2017
On paths from the S via Bow and Coumbs woods to help work of the excesses of our second Christmas dinner of the season. A nice summit with great views out over the Derwent Valley and N to the commanding Riber Castle.RichardM16/12/2017
Parking: Muddy pull-in to North SK 30552 58942. Good path almost all the way then nip westwards across a couple of fields from Sk310579.David Evans14/04/2017
One of my local TuMPs. Lost count of the number of times I've walked and mountain biked past it. The best 'locals' route is from Lea Bridge (park at Smedleys), through the lovely Bow Wood (very good non-RoW as marked on the map) and the narrow FP along the top of Coumbs wood to join the bridleway. To the top of the BW, and slightly downhill leads to the rickety gate and an easy way to the top (no wall climbing needed). Gorsey Knoll would be a more apt name. In dry weather, this is a brilliant mountain bike ride, but in soggy conditions, it makes a better run. Whichever way, the views are fabulous and the woods are top notch.Gill05/02/2017
With Penda, from Smedleys' Mill. Top just west of the footpath, alongside is a dip in the dry stone wall with 'stepping stones' each side, the sagging fence shows many have been this way. From the top an easier way reveals itself, a gate to the East which is hidden from the path by trees. Have been along the path often but never noticed this gate.beorwulf21/10/2016
Parked opposite Heatherstone Farm Lane. Good road and path to the obvious hop over the wall and across pasture and broken wall to lonesome tree.Campbell Singer02/10/2016
Enjoyable walk from Cromford Station - 50 min round trip. Top is almost on FP - just a short hop over wall at place where rocks are available to allow easy crossingtrimarc207/08/2016
Circular walk from Matlock with L over High Tor and steeply up to Riber Castle which is now being converted into apartments. Until 2000 it was a controversial wildlife park (zoo), with activists releasing several lynx into the wild. Footpath and wall hop to summit then down to Cromford and up to Black Rocks and the British Stone Centre with its display of different dry stone wall styles from all over UK then to Masson hill for last Debyshire Tump.Chris Pearson17/08/2015
Fantastic views as far as East Mids airport and Charnwood Hills . Nice little rocky top. Walked up while son playing cricket in Cromford.Mark Sims19/07/2015
As for ngthack. Nice hill. 2 people on top as I arrived.arranc08/04/2015
Parked at end of Hearthstone farm lane. Just beyond farm, sandy path off to the right. Up to the wood & over rickety metal gate on right to bouldery summit with faint ring mound.ngthack15/02/2015
From W but not recommended. Parked near entrance to Woodseats Farm and 'dog grooming'. Just N of this track leads NE up through wood and is very muddy. Once clear of the wood a series of fields and gates lead pleasantly SE to bouldery and gorse covered knoll.Aye Jimmy30/11/2014
4th and final summit of an epic walk from my house in Aspley, Nottingham to Matlock bath. Other hills Climbed were Nuttals park, Thorphill and Crich Beacon. I hopped over the stone wall from Hearthstone lane and Walked over to the stones at the top, covered in gorse and not bilberry ,strangely. It Was a race against the light to get to Matlock bath and the end of my Walk. Great view over to Riber castle.Dazingdale14/09/2014

Parked in small layby at north end of Hearthstone Lane. Pleasant stroll via hamlet. Short but easy trespass over two stone walls from highest point on track west of wood. Nice summit knoll with great views (pity about the quarry)Hillsidenick02/11/2012
Short morning walk from Lea Bridge. Great views over the Derwent Valley.davidpettit8430/09/2012
Navigating the wall (with barbed wire topping) for the summit is the only difficulty, seeing the way down is so much easier.JohnStoneham21/07/2012
Up track from Hearthstone. The gate to the summit field is well hidden by bracken. Disappointing lack of Vaccinium Myrtillus.Martin R27/06/2012
