Part 2 of a bagging day, parked in Cam Peak Car Park:
Cam Long Down > Crawley Hill (Hetty Pegler's Tump) > Downham Hill > Cam Peak | lboutside | 22/09/2021 |
Although I walked up to Uley Bury on my Cam Hills walk today, I decided not to extend the walk along the busy road, nor look for a gate at Crawley Downs that my brother used for permissive(?)access. Instead, like others, I drove up Crawley Hill, used the layby and RoW to the long barrow. Fascinating place, as was the Nympsfield long barrow, near superb viewpoints. Hazy, so Severn could be seen at Slimbridge today, but not the Severn Bridge earlier, from Stinchcombe Hill. | pwheeler | 06/09/2021 |
Parked in car park to NE of Cam Peak. Enjoyable circuit of Cam Peak, Downham Hill, Crawley Hill (crawled inside burial chamber) and Cam Long Down. | PGCE | 05/01/2021 |
Grassy barrow with wild flowers. Can crawl into large stone chamber, built c 3800bc and used for c 200 years. Victorian excavation revealed the remains of c22 individuals. | Denise | 19/05/2020 |
Up through the steep woods from the Cotswold Way. Excellent Neolithic grassed over barrow at summit. Well preserved inner chamber accessed from the NE. Lots of wild flowers in the grass. | RichardM | 19/05/2020 |

Made it difficult by parking at end of Knapp Lane to N, along Cots/Way a short distance then directly up very steep wood. Had a crawl around inside the barrow too. | Aye Jimmy | 22/06/2019 |
Simple stroll from the parking spot by the reservoir gate. Worth a crawl around inside the long barrow too. | milimana | 29/04/2019 |

With my family - parked in the sort-of layby by the reservoir a little way down the road. My young daughter loved being able to go inside the tomb - although it was a bit of a dirty-knees squeeze through the entrance for us oldies! Didn't realise it was a tump at the time, so glad we stood on top of the mound as well as going inside. | wheresthepath | 31/07/2017 |

Kingscote to Dursley. E side of Uley Bury, Cotswold Way then steep ascent of earthy bank to the well manicured show barrow. | Smudge | 14/02/2015 |
Hetty Pegler apparently owned the field in the C17th. Short stroll from the layby opposite in the snow. Got wet legs crawling in but once inside it was nice and dry. Would make a nice place to sleep, even having a number of bedrooms. | Herbert Anchovy | 14/01/2015 |
Langley Hill, Chrchdown Hill, Birdlip Hill, Crawley Hill, Cam Long Down (best of the bunch), Wyck Beacon | simon and co | 07/12/2014 |
From NE full anticlockwise spiral circuit walk, down through the woods and along the Cotswold Way under the steep wooded west side and back up to the roaD at the south then north and eventually in west to HPT. Crawled inside the barrow. Seemed to smell like a cross between fustiness and alcohol. Can't believe I lived in Cheltenham for twenty years without visiting it. | vegibagger | 20/04/2014 |
