A blustery traverse from Loweswater to Whin Fell. With Rick, Michael, Mandy, Riley and Bryher of course. | jenx | 17/02/2019 |
With Jenx, Bryher, Mike, Mandy and Riley. Linear outing along the Low Fell / Fellbarrow ridge and all tops. Very blustery with squally showers that cleared to finer weather and sunshine. Grand tour. | nordicstar | 17/02/2019 |
Warm and sunny walk after parking at bend NE of Littlethwaite, room for 2-3 cars. Up RoW from Thackthwaite and onto Sourfoot Fell. Then easy going to Smithy Fell and Fellbarrow - Mosser Fell. Then north to Hatteringill Head - Whin Fell and Whin Fell before heading NNE to track back towards Low Lorton and south to the car. | Dugswell2 | 21/04/2018 |
From Hatteringill Head. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 28/01/2018 |
12:20, 4 degrees C at Thackthwaite, dark cloud and sun, bracing north-easterlies. Road to Lorton Low Bridge then track. On to Hatteringhill Head. | Wycombe Wanderer | 06/01/2018 |
Attempted the track from Mosser in my brand new Seat Alhambra but about a quarter mile in was thwarted by a steep section v uneven and muddy, car crabbing sideways etc. Reversed back and nipped around to the other end of the track and drove up from Low Bank farm as Nordicstar; no real problem. | DC11main | 28/10/2017 |
A lovey walk in the sun today
Parked in thackthwaite
The climbed Low Fell, Sourfoot Fell, Smithy Fell, Fellbarrow, hatteringill Head and finally up Whin fell

Drove up the track from Low Bank farm to high point, side of track parking, road a bit rutted but not that bad. Whin Fell then on towards Fellbarrow | nordicstar | 13/10/2016 |
Short dash up and down from Low Lorton. | Eddie | 03/07/2016 |
Drove up to 133,259 [not recommended - unmade road with deep potholes - much worse than Google Earth streetview images from 2008]. Easy walk up lane to top - all other Fellbarrow tops done years ago. | Crib Goch | 04/06/2016 |
From Low Bank - you can drive further and park too | jimbloomer | 15/10/2015 |
Last hill and not previously visited on circuit Low > Loweswater Fell > Darling > Sourfoot > Smithy > Fellbarrow > Hatteringhill > Whin. Some awkward contouring to regain the path back to Thackthwaite. | Aye Jimmy | 03/08/2015 |
Climbed from Thackthwaite village. Parking available just south of the village either alongside the first gate to the south or further along adjacent to a larger gate. An excellent starting place for the full round. | moorsman | 08/05/2015 |
On a round of 8 hills from car park at Waterend: Darling Fell, Loweswater Fell, Low Fell, Sourfoot Fell, Smithy Fell, Fellbarrow, Hatteringill Head and finally Whin Fell. Good approach from Hatteringill Head over rolling sheep pastures. Grassy summit but with good shelter from wind for lunch stop. | jonglew | 19/03/2015 |
From Thackthwaite and a pick up by GB at 147258. Completed the Birketts, Wainwright, Marilyn and this Synge by heading north from Loweswater Fell. | bolton | 16/12/2014 |
With Jill & Gary. Birkett route plus Whin Fell at northern end. Steep pathless initial ascent followed by very pleasant walking. Access to Whin Fell barred by two walls. The first has a gate but the second doesn't. The wall is partly collapsed in places so easy to cross (I replaced four stones so it was in better condition after I crossed than before) but the way is then barred by a barbed wire topped fence. Bloodied fingers were the price paid for this summit but it gave me a good idea. From now on I'll carry a length of pipe insulation foam - light as a feather and perfect for covering a section of barbs. | ijpowell | 06/10/2014 |
With Jo, circular walk from Low Lorton: along road past Low Bank Farm, then tracks to Whin Fell (gate off track going towards Fellbarrow), returned past Aikbank Mill and along Mirk Lane. Weather; generally overcast with occasional sunny intervals, good visibility. | amblerbob | 18/04/2012 |
