Started and finished at the Haweswater head carpark and took an anti-clockwise circuit around the surrounding tops to reduce the impact of the strong gusting wind - Rough Crag, High Street, Mardale Ill Bell, Lingmell End, Harter Fell, Little Harter Fell, Adam Seat, Branstree, High Howes, Selside Pike and Brown Howe; returning via the Old Corpse Road. Approached from Mardale Ill Bell down shoulder, passing Eddie's 'stinking sink hole' with dead sheepy things in it, close to track! One to watch out for in winter conditions. Cairn where grassy shoulder drops steeply to the valley below. Mist cleared on arrival. Returned via Nan Bield to Mardale. First done straight up the front as a youngster living in Kentmere, no records of course. | Aye Jimmy | 16/10/2015 |

Accidentally topped this one when making an emergency exit off Mardale Ill Bell down towards Kentmere after a morning of torrential rain. Turned out that it did me a favour otherwise I would have had to return to complete this one!!! | moorsman | 08/08/2009 |

With Lesley-a sort of Kentmere Horseshoe with diversions to take in Synge tops. A plummeting descent and vertical challenge then followed direct up NE ridge of Ill Bell- not for the faint hearted. | Chris Pearson | 28/05/2006 |
