Scale Knotts-Rowantree Knotts-Sallows - Sour Howes | benarbia_8 | 02/04/2022 |
6/6 Birthday walk - Up to Yoke (revisit) via Dubs Reservoir, then down to Rainsborrow Crag and drop down contouring round to Castle Crag, Piked Hawes, Rowantree Knotts and Scale Knotts. Interesting picking route over all of those. Back over Garburn Pass. Five nice Synges but a bit late for birthday tea - oops . | nickywood1 | 03/09/2021 |
Solo. Piked Howes, Castle Crag, Rowantree Knotts, Scale Knotts, Rainsbarrow Crag (via steep N ridge), Yoke, Garburn Pass, Sour Howes, Capple Howe from Kentmere. A fine cold spring day. | Vin | 16/03/2020 |
17:30, 20 degrees, sun and cloud, calm at Kentmere Institute. Via grade 1ish scramble on Raven Crag. On to Rowantree Knotts. | Wycombe Wanderer | 13/07/2019 |
After doing the scramble on Raven Crag. I managed to squirm under a fence where the wall had tumbled down, then discovered a proper access further north. | Alan Moore | 18/06/2019 |
An early start on a beautiful morning. Fun finding the craggy tips on the way up to Yolk. With Bryher. | jenx | 22/05/2019 |
Long route for this one I missed. From Windermere via Mislet dubbs road garburn pass to Kentmere then road to Kentmere Res, just before Hartrigg made a beeline for the summit. Took an off piste route back to the top of garburn pass returning the same way | robert | 19/02/2019 |
Parking by the church full, got in a bit further up the road, room for 2 cars at NY 4554 0442. Continued up the gated road, veering off on faint track at NY 4569 0499. Picked up the other 3 Synges round here before heading on up to Yoke etc. Lovely clear skies, windy and v. cold. | jonglew | 17/01/2019 |
Last hill of the day. Came down from Rowantree Knotts. If you descend on the other side of the wall, there's a gate leading to more Access Land and a final gate onto the road, just by Scales. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 22/10/2018 |
With Bryher, parked up from the church, once past The Nook and approaching Badger Rock headed up the burn falling from Piked Howes, found old cart track further up and followed to close to top. Onto Castle Crag easily, then wet ground and walls to Rowantree Knotts, then after boggy ground Scale Knotts. Dropped with some thought through bracken and juniper to minor road at Scales, then road back to car. | nordicstar | 20/10/2017 |
Followed walls from the lane to Scales. | Eddie | 03/02/2017 |

Saw a 'charm' of goldfinches (maybe 15-20) on way from Rowantree Knotts. Very striking, even in mist and rain. Too slow with camera of course! Last Synge and of much sentimental value: once lived in Kentmere and we used to roam all over these hills as kids, almost certainly done this one before... but oh so long ago! | Aye Jimmy | 23/10/2015 |
Castle Crag - Piked Howes - Rowantree Knotts - Scale Knotts | ronaldo333 | 31/08/2015 |
There is a public road accessed through a gate a short distance after the village hall in Kentmere. A green notice warns that there is no parking beyond this gate. This is not true. Drive along the road to the cattle grid where there is ample roadside parking. Walk to Scales ( a small house) and pick up the open access to the top. | moorsman | 17/06/2015 |

With Jo, walk from Sadgill: track across pass to Kentmere, then via Hartrigg to open fell, followed wall south west to small copse (not shown on maps) with gates either end of track (NY 45000 06271 and NY 44959 06254) onto Scale Knotts. (Quad bike track alongside wall to the right goes almost to the summit). Returned via Kentmere and Green Quarter. Weather; sunny, warm, good visibility. (NB: there are two gates in the wall to the north west, but using these would mean a minor trespass). | amblerbob | 17/09/2014 |
More walls! | peebs | 28/06/2014 |
A round of 11 summits, 8 new ones. Parked on the road by entrance to caravan park. | thenomad | 08/04/2014 |
From Kentmere church. Careful route planning needed due to the large number of walls without gates in the area. | JohnStoneham | 04/02/2014 |
Why on earth is this on hillbagging? Pleasant enough place. But it aint a hill. | Martin R | 30/12/2013 |
