2nd visit after picking off the 4 new Lamps close by. Marvellous viewpoint for sombre Dove Crag -cant believe there is an easy V Diff up there which I've done -Westmorland's Route. Dove Crag Gully is an impressive slit -make a quality hard winter route -on my hit list. The foxhounds were out roaming endlessly on the steep craggy wooded fellside below Hartsop Above How opposite with hunt master blowing a horn endlessly for hours. The hounds surrounded me at one point- one sniffing my sandwich hopefully -but all harmless and engrossed in their sniffing for scents - thankfully nothing discovered that I could tell. Fascinating to watch their strength as they ran back up the steep rough fellside. Later spotted 2 farms by the road watching them through binoculars.Chris Pearson25/11/2023
My fourth round of the 4 Red Screes Wainwrights from the car park at Brothers Water, visiting Middle Dodd. Red Screes and its Synge Raven Crag, Little Hart Crag, and High Hartsop Dodd. Then I retraced my route back past Little Hart Crag and east along the ridge, before dropping by the old fenceposts past the impressive around Stand Crags to Stangs. A magnificent area below Dove Crag that I have not previously visited in my 60 years of Lakeland walking. Finally dropped down to the main track in Dovedale and back to Brothers Water. A great day, despite the misty conditions. 17km with 970m ascent 6h30m.silveracorn_alan31/10/2023

From the car park Brothers water, part route to Middle Dodd.smocks and denims04/11/2021
Solo walk from Brothers Water. High Hartsop (519m) first and Little Hart Crag (637m). Then another down and up to reach Red Screes (776m), then Middle Dodd (642m). Then I made the most difficult detour of the day, dropping to Stangs (474m) so I could bag the summit and then climbing all the way back to to Dove Crag (792m) and Hart Crag (822m). I then made a detour over to Great Rigg (766m) returning via my highest point of the day at Fairfield (822m) before walking back to Hart Crag and descending the ridge via the two summits on Hartsop above How (586m). A challenging walk as once on the fells I seemed to be constantly going up and down with very little level walking and the step counter measured 25 miles of 'real' distance walked. It was clear and sunny the entire day, some of the best views I've had up here for ages and relatively quiet considering the weather and time of year.meltdiceburg12/06/2021
From Sykeside. Light rain clearing. Didn't look like P17 to me so went on to Stand Crags to make sure I'd hit the right top. Agree with Dangerous Dave: a far superior summit. Enjoyed the impressive surroundings on descent; low cloud adding dramatic effect. Had Tante Nelly by the Joe Haider Trio on the brain. End to a very Autumnal and enjoyable day.Wycombe Wanderer05/11/2019
From Brothers Water Inn. Easy following paths most of way to top. Approached from west, more direct down.. Very pretty. With Bryher.jenx02/07/2019

Great run is serious humidity - thunder rolling around in the background! With Liz prior to Great North Swim. Started at Sykeside camp site, Hart Crags, Stangs, Fairfield, Cofa Pike, St Sunday Crag. Not feeling my best but pleased with the effort. 10.9 miles 3356 ft elevation.nell158308/06/2018
Up the ridge from Brothers Water. I was intending to do an out-and-back to bag this niggling Synge but the snow looked so inviting I carried on up Stangs CragsDC11main01/04/2018
Nice walk up on a rocky mountain path from the Brotherswater Inn car park. Last hill on the Helvellyn massif so just up and back down again.jonglew06/01/2018

With Eire, Evan, Sail, Danu, Coel & Alfie. The uppermost summit of Stand Crags is far superior. Descended from Dove Crag down this amazingly beautiful ridge.Dangerous Dave06/08/2015

Walking alone on a beautiful afternoon & evening, ascending from Kirkstone Pass pub, returning same way: Red Screes - Middle Dodd - Little Hart Crag - High Hartsop Dodd - Stangsstevem7622/04/2015
parked at Cow Bridge. Gale Crag, Hartsopp Above How ( Gill Crag ), Hart Crag, Dove Crag and Stangs.AlunRees3126/08/2014
From the Wainwright Hartsop above How, steep descent of grass and bracken to valley then up the other side. Two rounded grassy mounds, about right height but not quite at GR given. Went up towards next bump, too high so decided that that one was part of Stand Crag.Aye Jimmy20/07/2014
Another mysterious Synge. Two obvious tops near the estimated grid ref were too low. Higher ground was crossed south of the 460m contour on the map but almost impossible to say where Stangs ends and where Stand Crags begin. All in all another unsatisfactory experience looking for a Synge. The only plus point being the whole area is stunning.mick05/07/2014
With Jo, walk from Cow Bridge cp to Stangs. Weather; high cloud, cool breeze, good visibility.amblerbob03/05/2014
A minor detour off the main summit ridge. Appears much closer than it really is from the other tops.moorsman26/06/2013
From Syke Side campsite on an afternoon walk after we'd arrived. Easy ascent by coming in from the west side from higher on the beck but steeper slippy direct descent.Walker Dan08/10/2012
W Jenx, from Brothers Water inn, climb via this to Dove Crag, Stangs and along tops to Hart Crag and down spur of High Hartsop to startnordicstar02/02/2010
A lovely little Synge being atop a crag but someone had already beaten me to putting up some new climbs on it. W. Lesley & Darren then contoured under Dow Crag and back along Hartsop above How ridge to Brothers WaterChris Pearson09/04/2007
