Very easy ascent from col below. Onwards along a rising traverse to Beinn Meadhonach. | Minto | 28/02/2023 |
Parked in the car park and followed the farm road through Inverlochlarig and on to the splendid new footbridge. Then followed the SMC route up the desperately steep ascent of the Stob a' Choin. Then along the ridge visiting Meall Reamhow North Top, Meall Reamhow, and Creag na h-lolaire; before a tricky steep descent to Creag Chaorannach, and on to the pleasant little bump Cnoc na Nathrach. Then S to N along the Stob Breac ridge, where the going is much easier. Visited outlier Beinn Mheadonach, An Stuchd, Sob Breac Far South Top, Stob Breac South Top, and finally Stob Breac. I did not fancy a lengthy steep descent after so many steep sections already. So, I backtracked to the col before the south top, turned west, taking a gently graded grassy rake with a stream much the way to the top of the forest. I then went down the gap followed by the stream with a dog leg to the grassy forest road. Much of the route was slow going, so a 9 hour trek trek covering 20km with 1400m of ascent. | silveracorn_alan | 25/08/2022 |
Came down off the west slopes of An Stuchd to bealach. It must only just make the 30 mtr reacent to the rocky top of Cnoc na Nathrach (No adders fortunately). From there it was back north east to the edge of the forest where there is a firebreak just beside some peat hags. This gave a clear run heading north following the line of the burn for about half a mile to reach the end of the forest track that continues north and back down to Inverlochlarig. | Jossker | 06/08/2022 |
From Inverlochlarig, circuit of Stob a Choin, Meall Reamhar N & Main, Creag na h-Iolaire, Creag Chaorannach and Cnoc na Nathrach, returning down Glen Sgionie. The ladder stile visible from Cnoc na Nathrach is not a good entry point to the glen - I would try the following the burn from the SE corner of the forest next time. | TRG318 | 14/04/2021 |
From the car park towards Blairchreich, then the forest track to the tree break directly north of Stob Breac. Up the northern flank to the Stob, then along the ridge southwards taking in each recognised top to An Stuchd. Continued south to Beinn Mheadhonach, then back to take in Cnoc na Nathrac before heading along the burnside gap in the forest to the track through Glen Sgionie back to the start. 3.15 hours round. | summitter | 17/05/2019 |
7 top round from inverlochlarig C/W along track then along side of burn to open area, cnoc na nathrach, cruinn bheinn, creag chaorannach, creah na h lolaire, meall reamhar, meall reamhar north top, stob a choin. | robertphillips | 10/11/2018 |
Stob Breac, An Stuchd, Beinn Mheadhonach and Cnoc na Nathrach from Inverlochlarig. Short unpleasant section of forest to reach easy open ground then track along Glen Sgionie. Almost continuous rain. | RobertP | 26/08/2018 |
From Inverlochlarig via the zigzags and the vestigial path on the NE (near) side of the Allt a'Choire Bhan, which requires some grassy ledgework where the sidewalls close in around a waterfall. Thence to the ridge, circling North to take in the North Tp, Stob Bhreac itself, the South Top, Far South Top, An Stuchd, Beinn Mheadonach after a steady descent, and the pleasant viewpoint of Cnoc na Nathrach, with its embedded quartz summit. I made the mistake of crossing the dilapidated deer fence and floundering in the mud and serried trees of the Darien Gap between there and the start of the Glen Sgoinie track. | Nick Down1 | 29/04/2018 |
From Inverlochlarig, through the forest. Then on to Cruinn Bheinn. | Colin Crawford | 03/06/2017 |
Solo. From car park at the start of the track to Inverlochlarig. After Stob Breac and the ridge south to An Stuchd. A deer fence goes east west across the hill a little to the south of the summit of An Stuchd. However, a section near the top is flattened so I crossed to the south side. Went down the hillside, crossing a fence at a set of wooden cross pieces, and up to the summit of Cnoc na Nathrach. I saw a style over the deer fence mentioned earlier so I though this must be the start of a route through the forest. Not a good route! Overgrown and very boggy indeed so it was rather unpleasant. Eventually I came to a burn and followed it without difficulty to Allt Sgionie. Followed Allt Sgionie on bits of path to the start of the forest track shown on the map. Followed the track through the forest and so back to the car park. The day had been dry and clear, better than the weather forecast had suggested. | pwbellarby | 04/08/2016 |
