From achinduin after getting the ok to park near the houses, arrived 2 hours before low tide just cleared. | robertphillips | 22/07/2023 |
10 of us crossed an easy low tide causeway on a beautiful day with magic views. | Crumblie2 | 27/08/2022 |
Left bike half a mile before road end. Pleasant stroll down grazed fields (no track as such but easy going). Plenty of time either side of LW for crossing. | AndrewFinnimore | 05/10/2021 |
Hop across narrow short beach just before low water. Rough off the sheep path which obligingly provides easy access to the summit. Look for the rocky gully behind a pinnacle when leaving the raised beach. Return past the castle and on to Barr Mor. | fasgadh | 07/07/2021 |
On a Mervyn trip - 6 baggers - 6 SIBS - excellent adventure - good fun. | ger | 23/07/2018 |
On the Etive Explorer out of Dunstaffage with 5 like-minded island baggers on a Mervyn Jack trip. Final of 6 SIBs for the day with 3 Siblets to go. Landed in a sheltered bay at NE end of the island. A grazed island; easy walk up to cairned HP. | jonglew | 23/07/2018 |
6th of 6 SIBs on a boat trip from Dunstaffnage. Landed near where the island would be joined to Lismore at low tide. Nice easy route to summit. High tide so most definitely an island. | NormanW | 23/07/2018 |
Debs and Talisker, down the track past the castle. | Mountain Goat | 23/06/2018 |
Parked at end of public road with permission from nearby house, next to ' no parking, do not block gate' sign. Advised by local not to attempt as not Springs. In sheeting rain we departed, following signed Castle route via houses as mapped track not visible on marshy ground. We approached the tidal island at LW-30 mins and crossed narrow spit of slippy seaweed on low limestone ribs. Spent 30 mins on island walking to summit and back. Small cairn in rough grass on summit sheep pasture, with alternative nearby point of similar height. Returned via impressive castle. Good trip. | Denise | 23/04/2018 |
Walked across island from road on East side after summiting Hump top, interesting castle ruin on way, easy tidal crossing | nordicstar | 16/04/2018 |
After Barr Mor. Cross a couple of walls and go past the W end of the wood and pick up paths via Achadun castle - most impressive. Spit is clear for about 2.5 hours either side of low tide at Oban and takes 20 minutes there and back, plus at least another 10 for photographs. Easy to follow sheep tracks to summit. Back to ferry via the track and public road via Achinduin. NB It takes a determined person at least 2 hours to get from the summit to the ferry slip. Lovely day out.
Again by boat on 23/07/2018 via Etive Boat Trips followed by Eilean Musdile Mor and Beag | Thearlaichdubh | 01/05/2017 |
With Coastal Connection out of Oban; group charter. Limestone island with several specimens of Rock Whitebeam (Sorbus rupicola) on SE cliffs, also some Common rockrose. Visited Maiden Island on way back to Oban: close view of passing CalMac ferry. | RHW | 08/06/2015 |
Walked from the ferry at Achnacrois by road to Achinduin and down the track (boggy in places) to Achadun Bay. Just about to cross to the island when encountered a flock of sheep coming the other way across the isthmus. Spoke with the shepherd, who had chosen low tide that day to bring the beasts across to be taken to Oban market a day or two later. He pointed out a grassy gully as the best way up to the summit, and confirmed there was plenty of time before the island was cut off again. Good weather and interesting unfamiliar views of the hills of Morvern. Return by same route. | mainnirnamfiadh | 09/08/2014 |
I had no idea whether the tide was going in or out so it was a mad dash. As it happened, the tide was going out so I could have relaxed - if the wind had let me. However, it was a good job I did rush as there were no more ferries after the one I got because of the aforementioned wind. | Martin R | 25/04/2012 |
