Cycled from Killilan to Iron Lodge - delayed by about 20 minutes because of cows on track. Walked zigzags up SW shoulder of hill. Great views. | willyross | 23/09/2023 |
From Beinn an t-Socaich via the long but satisfyingly remote and unfrequented Druim Bheag. Good view down the verdant Glen Elchaig,
Carnan Cruithneachd looking particularly fine from this angle. Surprisingly straightforward and pleasant descent SW to Iron Lodge, then walked to Carnach and biked to Camus Luinie. Roughly 22km bike, 32km with 2000m ascent walk. 11 hours not hurrying, savouring. | Wycombe Wanderer | 31/05/2023 |
On descent from An Cruachan startiing from west end of Loch Mhoicean -an easy way up! Steep down back to Iron Lodge. | dave g | 28/05/2023 |
Cycled to Iron Lodge about 1hour40 up zigzags onto SW ridge 6 hours total. | rogreeves | 31/03/2023 |
An Cruachan and Carn na Breabaig on day 1 of a record breaking heat wave? Well, shouldn't be a problem if you believe the Met Office forecast of 20 C for An Socach. Er, wrong, it was warm enough to melt my twix bars. The bike ride to and from Iron Lodge was fine, but the track up to Loch Mhoicean is very sheltered, so baking hot. Nice breeze around the Loch and the Coire nan Each bog/path, but the S face of An Cruachan was unbelievably hot. Back on the path and track to about 500m SW of SW end of loch where an ATV track goes easily up to the end of the upper N ridge of Carn na Breabaig so avoiding the hags below. Over the top in proper wind but still hot; steep down to Iron Lodge. All done very slowly to avoid heat stroke, plus 5L of fluids. A bit disappointed with An Cruachan; it's a just a wart on the side of An Socach. Carn na Breabaig is much better. | Gill | 18/07/2022 |
From Aonach Buidhe. Descended east of the stream to the loch outflow and jumped over it. Straightforward to the summit, views in all directions to higher hills mostly in cloud. Descended WSW to Iron Lodge, then a long but quite pleasant walk in cool, dry weather back to Camas-luinie. | Owen B | 19/06/2022 |
Wild camp near Loch an Droma - Carn na Breabaig - An Socach - An Cruachan - Coire nan Each - Iron Lodge - Camas-luinie | davidpettit84 | 02/06/2022 |
Cycled from Killilan to Iron Lodge. Ascended track behind Lodge and then headed up hill a bit slowly. Great views in all directions from summit. | Crumblie2 | 07/05/2022 |
MC. From Killilan using a bike. Hot, sunny day. Cycled to Iron Lodge. Two herds of docile highland cows. Initial ascent by zigzags and then following small stream upwards to its source before flattening out slightly before the summit. Great views. Hill very dry after weeks of sunny weather. L. Mullardoch looking very low. Return by same route c. 33km. | Martin66 | 02/09/2021 |
A short walk from Iron Lodge before biking out. The lodge is accessible, rainproof and a couple of upstairs rooms are windproof, rest have broken windows Floors are a mess with fallen plaste and rubbish. A pity really, with a bit of TLC could be a nice place, complete with its AGA. | dickscroop | 29/08/2021 |
Rode up Glen Elchaig to Iron Lodge and walked up from there. View east to Loch Mullardoch spoiled by gathering rain clouds. | IanHHill | 11/07/2021 |
After An Cruachan with Mark G. Traversed south of the loch so not to lose height. Back to Iron Lodge and bikes to Killilin. | bolton | 10/07/2021 |
Cycled from Killilan to Iron Lodge then over Braenag and on to An Cruschan. | Topographer57 | 26/06/2021 |

From Carnach. Followed Watershed from An Cruachan to Creag Glas (with a bivvi). | jimbloomer | 30/04/2019 |
On foot from the road end at Killilan in 7h30. (I've done everything else without a bicycle so it had to be done on foot). Final Marilyn in Section 12. | PGCE | 12/05/2018 |
Long overnight route from Killilan. Left 10.20am, walked past Iron lodge then up SSW ridge of Aonach Buidhe to summit, detoured to top approx 400m to W,then return to summit and followed NE ridge to An Creachal Beag and Aonach Cas. Descent off ridge ENE using stalkers path then across stream and ascent to the very remote An Cruachan - good views as for the rest of the day. Descent SSW back down to glen and followed path to S end of Loch Mhoicean. From here took fairly direct route to summit of Carn na Breabaig 10.20pm, pitched tent. Woke up to bright sunshine and outstanding views to the Affric mountains with cloud in the glens. Descended WSW to Iron Lodge and long walk back to car. | RobertP | 04/07/2017 |

2 of 2: From An Cruachan. Back to Killilan on bike from Iron Lodge. | ChrisR | 16/10/2016 |
Continuation of a mega day. Easy once out of the hags, and picked up the zig zag path down to Iron Lodge and back to the bikes. Region 12 finished. | jenx | 14/08/2016 |
After the long out and back to An Cruachan the traverse line at 600m to Carn na Breabaig was a little painful. The hill itself easy and quick descent to bikes at Iron Lodge via good track. Cycle out to Killilan clicked up a round trip of just under 50km in 9hrs. | nordicstar | 14/08/2016 |
On return from An Cruachan. Ascent from south end of Loch Mhoicean. Easy gradient. Interesting summit with superb views in all directions. Grassy and gentle descent to Iron Lodge before cycling back to Killilan. | Campbell Singer | 07/06/2016 |

En route back to Iron Lodge (to where we biked) and ultimately Camas Luinie in Glen Elchaig, having walked all the way out to An Socach & Riabhachan. A truly amazing walk! The Graham is good with excellent views down Glen Elchaig. | AGWilliamson | 20/09/2011 |
