With Mo. Parked in the hotel car park at pont Cyfyng. £10 per day not unexpected for the A5 in Snowdonia. Followed the Trail Magazine route through the disused quarry and then scrambled up Deaer DDu, avoiding some of the hardest sections. Very boggy around the last quarry lake. Descended on the tourist path, avoiding the rocky promontory.gbeniston06/05/2023

With Lindsey and a dozen or so GMC members. We convened at the Hut and started walk at approx 10am - it was already hot by then. Followed the mine track past the quarries to Llyn y Foel. Started the Daear Ddu scramble together but ended up ascending it in individual groups. Reconvened at summit for lunch. Lindsey and I descended to the forestry track for a swim in Llyn Mymbyr - very hot by then. Walked back to hut then drove to WK.Skip17/07/2021

Third day of trip with Lindsey. Parked at GMC Hut. Cloudy bright, cool breeze. Followed the farm track southwest past the mine ruins and quarry pool to Llyn y Foel. Somehow missed the start of Daear Ddu scramble so ended up ascending a patchy path to the west. Had lunch near the summit then descended northeast across grass to the steep path down. Rejoined the farm track back to the Hut.Skip18/04/2021

From NE starting at Tyn y Coed hotel CP about 200m NW of start of private road, parking £3. Good road then good track to 375m reservoir, then dilapidated and very wet path past 535m lake and onto steep and scrambly east ridge. NE ridge would have been nicer and probably easier. Descended NNE and soon picked up path NNE down to 250m, then track east to footbridge, a much nicer and easier route than route of ascent.Topographer5723/08/2019

Fantastic days walking, climbed through the cloud to be rewarded with a glimpse of a sunlit mountain top across the valley through a chink in the cloud, then a few minutes later and a bit more climbing brought us into bright sunlight, clear blue sky with the valleys full of cloud. Slowly the valleys cleared too. To cap it all on the way down, a large cloud formed in the valley and blew towards us, with the low sun behind us we were rewarded with a brilliant Brocken Specter, amazing day.Bernard17/11/2018

I did this walk the wrong way round as I came down Daear Ddu and, since it's a little bit of a scramble, it's probably better to go up that way and down the other. This is an ideal half way walk and took me about 4 hours. Parked on the A5 layby just opposite Bryn Glo (which is also a car park and has a tea room). Crossed the river and followed the river bank upstream and then headed through Coed Bryn-engan which had a fine display of blue bells, despite the fact that it was the last day of May. A surprisingly busy top, passed quite a few people, but it was half term. Great views of Snowdon on the way up. Came down to Llyn y Foel via Ddaer Ddu which was a little bit of a scramble. The ruined quarry was also very interesting on the descent, must have been pretty substantial in its day.tsharp31/05/2016

Climbed from A5 at Pont-Cyfnyg via Llyn y Foel and SE ridge on ascent. Descent via NE ridge. Total time 4 hours. Beautiful cloudless sunny weather. Super mountain. Nice scrambly ridge, shapely peak, excellent viewpoint, especially of the Snowdon horseshoe. I climbed with my labrador Jet, who had to be lifted over some of the rocky steps on the SE ridge, but who enjoyed swimming in the tarns! This was a fond childhood memory of mine with high school, we made the ascent as part of an outdoor pursuits programme with Lledr Hall in Pont-y-Pant, anyways we started at the bottom near some forest like area and gradually got to the top to some amazing views (even had a fighter jet fly-by from R.A.F Anglesey) now on the way down i hadn't fallen once yet at the bottom in some village i slipped on a feckkin' puddle and got my arse wet, which made an uncomfy ride back to lledr on the minibus! haha! - CharlieMan-of-Rohan12/07/2006

A weather report at the end of this month said that the temperature reached 60 degrees (F) at Capel Curig today. Striking view from the Royal Bridge across to the Snowdon group. Walked through woodland and then along a straight, stony path to the summit ridge. Across boulders to the top. Moel Siabod stands completely alone and there is a full-circle panorama from Moel Hebog to the Carneddau and then the flatter landscape to the north and east.peter4lc12/12/2001

Many visits, this the date of my first ascent. I went from Capel Curig via Llyn y Foel, a route that is stongly recommended for its beauty and finish on rock, on the E ridge (maybe up to Grade 1 scrambling). I love this side of the mountain. The N and W slopes are comparatively dull; the view of the Snowdon Horseshoe and cwm is one of Britain's classic mountain views. I went down the moorland slopes to get to Pen y Pass today.pwheeler20/09/1975

With Chester Rambling Club. From Pont Cyfyng. Crossed the river and after 100yd turn right off road to track beside a disused inclined plane. Went past (on the right hand side) a small lake and then a quarry (filled with frozen water). On the far side of Llyn y Fach had lunch. Went up fairly steep ridge to Carnedd Moel-siabod (2860'). Many interesting small pitches climbed, but this was not in the least necessary. Walked downhill approximately in a straight line for Capel Curig. There is a faint path; it starts just outside the trees. Crosses fence into Forestry Commission land on top of rise; at broken wall, followed wall to a well defined track which leads to Brynengan. Just before the latter took a short cut direct to the river footbridge. A little snow remaining. Tea at Snowdon Café, a wooden chalet with good views of Snowdon.pwbellarby07/01/1962

First ascended this great hill as part of a field trip from school form Capel Curig. Most of the others were moaning about being tired & too steep. Many other visits - including a hairy winter ascent have been made.ChinnockCblank
