With Mo. Parked at Leighton Church and made a 5.5 mile walk of it. Due south on the road until the historic Leighton farm Buildings, then east leading to a footpath that meets Offa's Dyke Path at the top. You can see the Hill Fort as the path bears right. Walk to the hill top and explore Trig point etc. Best to just retrace steps to the road then walk directly back to the Church. Nice views.gbeniston14/03/2024
From Roman Road, east of summit. Parked at T-junction south of Short Cross. Mast track to gate. Plank over moat, then through trees to trig. Returned anti-clockwise around perimeter of fort. No access problems. Solo.Dangerous Dave25/02/2024
An intriguing place. The fort was built and first occupied between the later Bronze Age and the early Iron Age – after 1000BC and before the arrival of the Romans c.50AD.summitter31/08/2023
Second ascent, don't remember it from the first time round though.PeteF19/06/2022
Parked in big lay-by just around the corner at the T junction (268053) as other spaces by the mast track were full. Up the mast track, through the gate around to the right, path onto the ring then through the trees to the summit. 0.9miles, about 20 minutes round trip.JulieB28/05/2022
After ascending Upper Park with the Relative Hills Society. Used the access track for the masts and then through a gate next to the second mast, which gives access to the wood where the summit lies.pwbellarby28/05/2022
From Welshpool on bike which I left at base of hill.davechaffey26/05/2022
Up the mast road then through pasture. With Dad and Léa. Her first Marilyn! Pleasant conditions with good views out to the surrounding countryside on the way up and down but summit is in an old hill fort within a copse of treesbowlesy27/04/2022

Room for a couple of cars at 255 054 from where I walked up the road to meet the Offas' Dyke footpath. This takes you to the copse containing the summit.Peterb30/10/2021
Parked in the cemetery car park near the green dragon.Stevooo21/08/2021
After dropping Evie at Churchstoke. Parking spot near entrance to mast track. Follow mast track to the end where there is a gate for access to the monument. Great views all round (except N). Clear views of Cadair Idris, Aran Fawddwy, Wrekin, Stiperstones, Corndon. SoloRoguePulsar18/07/2021

Repeat visit. From canal towpath in Welshpool, picked up Offa's Dyke path in Buttington to the Beacon Ring trig and onto Forden. Unpleasant road walk then along A490 to pick up the tow path at Belan Locks and back. Solo.richard6910/05/2021

12.15 trig pillar S4718 nagging doubts about the possibility of unfinished business, now rectified. When coming here in August 2004 with Jamie, I was in a hurry. It seemed obvious that the highest point was going to be on the rim of the ring fort and these points near to the masts must be good enough for the highest point. No time to hunt down the trig pillar. Doubts haunted me since. Chatting with Myrddyn Phillips confirmed my doubts. Time for a visit to photograph the trig pillar. Mission accomplished. Honour satisfied.vegibagger30/04/2019
Parked in Lay-by near mast access road. Met another Marilyn Bagger just finishing as we set off. Summit easy enough to find in woods, lovely view just outside the wooded area.Jephcote8314/04/2019
Across field and along Offa Dyke to fort, to trig and HP in trees. Back past mast and access road.PeterD08/04/2019

3/7 Marilyn day. A short walk up the access road to the masts, then round the Beacon Ring and visited the trig. (S)silveracorn_alan07/08/2018
Approach from SW using Offa's Dyke path. No summit views in the spooky summit copse. Did an ACW circit of embankment, from which there was good views.ger01/05/2018

Short detour from a walk along Offa's Dyke.rhalstead13/01/2018
1/2 - Popped up here after work in Leighton. Have 'longed' (excuse the pun) to come up here for nearly 20 years, just never got round to it. Fascinating hill that is such an important part of view from the Oswestry area, but rarely mentioned or acknowledged by anyone! Beacon Ring was great fun, very welcoming place, and the embankment of the hillfort is a great short circular walk! Very odd the way it surrounds the forest where the trig point is. The Forest spells out 'E II R' when viewed from above. A Severn Trent employee had got his van stuck up here and was in a bad mood, having been waiting for a colleague to get here from Church Stretton since 11am! (it was 2pm by now).tumpawumpa19/12/2017

Short approach from road to E, interesting hill fort and great views to W from edge of woods. Shame about the masts blighting the hill.steve_a28/10/2017

Parked in layby just past access road to pylons. Walked up road to pylons, then through gate and up through trees on Beacon Ring fort to trig point.PaulineD19/08/2017
Parked by track to microwave masts, through gate just past first mast over grass bank into spooky wood to trig point.rogreeves19/04/2017
Short ascent from the SE. Summit is a few metres from trig point in woodland in centre of ring.Topographer5705/04/2017
Fuelled by all day breakfast in the Pinewood cafe, Welshpool, as delaying tactic hoping for the fog to clear. No chance. Parked by the Stubb, and followed Offa's Dyke to the summit. Very atmospheric in the fog. Circumnavigated the hill fort wall because it's higher than the trig, and worried about the current fashion for Bings supplanting summits. Brambles not too bad in March. Back the same way, with tales of the miserable estate owners revealed by discussion with a local.Gill27/03/2017

While I was there two cars drove right up to the masts up the track from the road on the east. Seems most locals do that. I felt a bit silly walking in from the end of the track. Through and around the woods. Rather pointless Trig now surrounded by trees. Interesting that the trees spell out 'E R' (Queen Elizabeth II). https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154520116367367&set=a.10154519747367367.1073741901.693847366&type=3&theatergeralddavison30/10/2016

From masts. Interesting hill fort and trees.twg2711/08/2016
Parked at mast road entrance (between it and the field gate, good space). Road to mast is driveable and has parking/tuning space. Overcast, warm, calm and very atmospheric amongst the trees.iangalbraith08/07/2016
