On paths from Throxenby Mere car park. | Winterfloodian | 26/02/2024 |
Very straightforward from the South. Wide verge parking along the road west. | Tony S | 25/09/2023 |
Parked in the free car park by Throxenby Mere. Ascended up path from the bend in the road. There is a good path through the woods once you get by the two masts. Came back through Raincliffe Woods. A nice little hill. | KevPalmer | 07/09/2023 |
Parked at Throxenby Mere, paths up through woods, then round to the W of the masts, and surprisingly good path through a few gates along a narrow strip of woodland to a field. Along tractor lines through crop, and around crop edge to the copse and summit. | LizH | 07/09/2023 |
Visiting family, parked at end of Springhill Lane, followed Prow along Rowbrow Woods to the beacon, definately evidence of an old folly or other building here
Good views, dry and sunny | matty1971b | 26/08/2023 |
From the Green Gate CP in Raincliffe Woods. Up and along woodland paths to Wilkinson's Shed and Glasshouse Springs, then FP across brassica field to Hagworm Hill and Row Brow transmitters. Row Brow FP to E of Seamer Beacon, over gate and along field edge then short walk to summit features. Returned along mid-path through Raincliffe Woods. A lovely way to do the hill. Treecreeper and Nuthatch highlights. | summitter | 20/02/2023 |
As others, parked on wide verge towards the farm. At corner took bridal way passing through four wooden gates. Then across squelchy turnip field to summit | grumpy | 01/02/2023 |
From Throxenby Mere. No real mud after the heatwave. There is an obvious path to the west of the masts that isn't marked on the map. | sturuss | 06/08/2022 |
Walked from Scarborough Castle to here via the steep steps in Falsgrave Park. The narrow nettly path south of the reservoir wasnt the best. | mrs_ts7 | 11/09/2021 |
As others describe, parked passed the road bend, towards the farm. From the corner, took bridal way, passing through four pedestrian gates. Path then has open access to the tree top knoll. Quite an enigmatic spot. Going by earthworks and prominence, it would surely have been of some importance in ancient times. | Pete West | 19/08/2021 |
Summit knoll has mature trees, long grass and a partly covered tumulus. Hazy views of Scarborough castle, from where we had walked. Footpaths through Row Brow farm/ holiday park not well marked but not challenged. Showery day. | Denise | 31/07/2021 |
From the pond to the North (where a turtle resides) along the footpath to the masts then through a couple of fields and over a bwf to the top. | NormanW | 07/07/2021 |
Parked on the North foot of Raincliffe Woods and then a gentle and very green stroll - found a meadow of rather large horsetails. Gentlemen were decommissioning the Medium Wave transmitter located a short way from the summit. | M3WDD | 07/07/2021 |
From the car park at Throxenby Mere. Up the muddy bridleway, where it was too bad we used a path people had made on its bank; then track on NE side of fenced off field then access route to bw coming up from S. Path to top then found good path back on SW side of mast compound. We returned via a well-used, waymarked path above Cock hollow and a boardwalk on the W side of the mere. A decent walk, with Pete. | pwheeler | 06/06/2021 |
Near GCHQ Scarborough. | clivevilla | 13/03/2021 |
From Irton Mount caravan park next to GCHQ parking for two. 40 min there and back. | Longwojo | 02/08/2020 |
Ran up, up, up from West / East Ayton. Interesting summit features | madaddo | 28/07/2020 |

Seamer Beacon from GR: TA 01038 88677 | Hippster | 16/07/2020 |
Parked near Riggs Head Farm, along minor road and between new fences through four gates, turning left for tumulus. | peter4lc | 20/05/2020 |
1st of 3 tumps on an 8.5mi traverse from Scarborough hospital (via 8 bus from stop M opp Wetherspoons). I took a series of paths leading to top of woodland ridge, over 1 bw fence over tumuli then another to walk direct to atmospheric top in copse with old stones nearby. Elder tree had some good Jews Ear fungus on it. Continuation on fp along ridge heading for Oliver's Mount... | Dazingdale | 29/12/2019 |
Parked on Irton Moor Lane, on the verge near the junction with the track to Beacon Farm. From here, it is a straightforward walk E to the road corner, N through the bridleway gate until parallel with the copse, and W avoiding fences to the summit. I made the circuit of the remains of Baron Alberts tower. | Nick Down1 | 29/08/2019 |
From Throxenby Mere (TA010886) via small (unmapped) path to the W of telecoms masts. | summitsup | 25/03/2019 |
Drove up the track near Beacon Lodge as the plethora of no parking signs near GHQ deterred me. As it turned out good track and another branched over the fields to the Tumuli. One barb wire fence crossed at corner to the summit area. | N.Morters | 07/03/2019 |
With Jo, from car park near Raincliffe Farm. Ascent via Middle Road and Shields Trod, descent via Rowbrow Road to Throxenby Mere. A lovely sunny afternoon with good visibility. | amblerbob | 17/02/2019 |
From the car park at Throxenby Mere. Up the muddy bridleway past Row Brow Farm. Ignore the first track immediately after the first mast compound. Go down the short track to the second mast compound and immediately before the gate into the compound ahead go right and a track will be found. This is a continuation of the bridleway that the map shows as stopping to the north east of the summit (though I would challenge anyone to ride a horse along it). Follow the track through a couple of gates and at the third one you can make your way across the field to the top. | Clach Liath | 20/01/2019 |
HEMA Amateur Radio Activation. A beautiful peaceful spot but sadly I felt obliged to collect a small amount of litter that had been deposoted by previous visitors. | G0DEB559 | 26/07/2018 |
Milking the last of the daylight before heading to Scarborough YHA. Parking at start of RoW due S. Waterlogged fields, but nice treed mound with ancient stonework to finish off the day. | jonglew | 11/03/2018 |
From Throxenby Mere up the very boggy bridleway | peebs | 08/03/2018 |
Early morning climb w Jenx and Bryher from nr GCHQ facility. Grass on bridleway quite long and still wet, wellies would have been better than boots. The beacon top is quite small but impressive nonetheless | nordicstar | 10/09/2017 |
A pleasant wooded knoll. A sense of history. | jenx | 10/09/2017 |
Verge parking by bend just beyond the GCHQ facility at 011871 - Through gate & then N. along RoW & through 3 more gates before heading across to the summit tumulus. The circle of stones on the summit are the remains of Baron Albert's Tower, a 19th century stone folly. (S) | gerrybowes | 02/09/2017 |
With K. Site of the Badger and Mole joint council. | Ashley | 19/02/2017 |
Nice walk with K on crisp day from Forge Valley via Raincliffe Woods. | IanHHill | 29/01/2017 |
Quite an atmosphere around here after twilight. Still, done and back down in plenty of time for supper at Scarborough YHA. | Alex C | 19/11/2016 |

From minor road to south by GCHQ building. Easy but wet underfoot. | citygent | 01/03/2016 |
With Sail. We walked up through the woods from the car park by Raincliffe Farm. | Dangerous Dave | 14/11/2015 |
Public road from East Ayton to the transmitters. Drove all the way in my standard vehicle. Public footpath from the end as far as the top. Fantastic viewpoint so choose a clear day. | moorsman | 04/01/2015 |
On a fairly random trig and sub Marilyn visit to Scarborough, not enough switched on and planned. | vegibagger | 12/09/2014 |
With Mora | BLACKHILL | 15/06/2014 |
Lovely evening walk over from the main road past the GCHQ listening station. And there was a geocache at the summit too! | signyred | 11/05/2013 |
On way to Claire and Steve's wedding. Nice views of the sea around Scarborough. | simon and co | 19/07/2012 |
Walked up through the town from seafront, and along Lady Grace track until peeling off for summit. | DanHolme | 09/06/2012 |
A good walk up through the mist on some snow and ice. Summit area clear. Good 2m contacts. | G4OOE | 05/02/2012 |
Walked up to the obvious summit from the car park at Raincliffe Woods. High point is at the centre of a copse (inside the remains of the beacon?) | yorkie | 31/01/2012 |
