Revisit to Derry Cairngorm walking over the hills missed last time. Carn Crom, Derry Cairngorm, Sgurr an Lochan Uaine, Creagan a Choire Etchachan. In Nov 1979 it was full on winter with so much snow that I did not realise Derry Cairngorm was a bouldery hill... and the paths were less obvious or not even there. My map still does not show many of the paths. Quite an eye opener. | sarahk | 28/08/2022 |

Rob and I had 2 more to go on htis traverse, Derry Cairngorm and Beinn Mheadhoin. We started off descending towards Loch Etchachan. Leaving the packs to set off to the right for Derry Cairngorm (no. 8 1155m). No drama. Retracing steps we collected the packs and reached the loch shore again leaving the packs and ascending the track under restoration to Bheinn Mheadhoin (No 9. 1182m). This was a remarkable section with open ridge and the rocky stacks lying like warts on the ridge tops. We climbed the summit stack without difficulty considered an afternoon that could be spent exploring alternative rock climbing routes and then set off with the thoughts of our end point in mind. Picking up the sacs at the Loch we then headed down to Loch Avon remembered the shelter stone and camping ground of my early Arduous Training days as a school boy. We stopped to bathe our feet in a burn feeding Loch Avon and set of off up the Alt Coire Raibert a flower-fringed scramble to the shoulder of Cai | david.walker40 | 10/08/2020 |
