From Strathcarron third hill of the day two more to go | Andrew Simmons | 23/03/2024 |
With Rhona & Struie. Park without annoying anyone in Achintee and proceed up to the electricity sub station. Go thru a gate and after 50 yds turn left on a path. You can follow this path, as per OS, south of the River Taodail. Climb steadily and pick your turning off point to ascend the N ridge of Creag Dhubh Mhor. Follow the ridge along. Summit marked by small cairn. We then decended S by some small lochans and went up to the trig of Carn Geuradain. Many possible routes down fromhere, but we chose the Allt Garadh Allein valley SW. Poss not the best. Eventually a good path is reached, which travels broadly NW to take you all the way back to the start. | DampandDusty | 23/09/2023 |
3rd summit of the day clockwise with D. Dave. | bolton | 29/05/2023 |
With bolton. Came up from the small NE Top. | Dangerous Dave | 29/05/2023 |
The description in the graham book is very confusing. Ignore the sign 'to the hill paths' at Achintee. Ignore the foot path marked on the map which involves climbing over someone's gate and walking past their front door (the building is currently unoccupied). Easiest start is to follow the new hydro path that goes off main road at corner by the station. The break off point from this road for the track up the hill is clearly marked with a cairn of stones. (NG 960417) Today we only went to summit and back - deep snow, shortage of light and an early Christmas dinner awaited! | sarahk | 10/12/2022 |
From Achintee along Bearnais track. Return via Loch nan Creadha. Drizzle then fine with decent views. | vuirich | 09/06/2022 |
Parked at Strathcarron hotel/station took new hydro track not on my map. When track ended headed S to pick up footpath followed this & then headed for bealach easy crags to get through over to Carn Geuradainn & down SW ridge. Path back to Achintee wasn't easy to spot. Tougher day than it looked on map. Nice pint in hotel to keep them sweet (Lochcarron brewery). | rogreeves | 15/05/2022 |
Circuit from Achintee. Initially followed Bearnais path to high point, then visited Cnoc Uadhall North Top, Cnoc Uadhall, Creag Dhubh Mhor NE Top, Creag Dhubh Mhor, Carn Geuradainn, Carn Geuradainn SE Top. Returned roughly W, contouring ridge to reach path back to start, visiting Creag Dhubh Beag on the way. Tops in cloud and steady rain / drizzle for much of the way. | RobertP | 05/05/2022 |
Parked at Achintee below cattle grid, followed Gill's route at the start, not obvious at first so useful instructions. On return stayed on the hydro road to the level crossing and back via the main road. Nicer surface but a bit tedious. | iangalbraith | 02/05/2022 |
A lot of wind in the forecast which did nt reall materialise so settled on a short walk. Creag Dubh Mhor from railway crossing on good track which later merges into the old stalkers path then up through an obvious and easy grassy break in the crags circling the summit. | dickscroop | 22/04/2022 |
Creag Dhubh Mhor and all its subsidiary humps, bumps and lumps, making use of the stalkers paths from Achintee. Left the village on the southern path and returned via the northern. Creag Dhubh Beag and Aonach Dubh East Top done for completeness. Not a sole to be heard or seen all afternoon. | summitter | 21/03/2022 |
Achintee - Bearnais path - Creag Dhubh Mhor - Carn Geuradainn - Bendronaig Lodge path - Achintee. Damp. | davidpettit84 | 19/10/2021 |
From Achintee, good parking on main road below cattle grid. Path goes past the substation, not as mapped, through gate onto track then NW at signpost to join mapped path after river crossing. This path joins the hydro road. Took the path towards Loch nan Creadha (starts by the hydro bridge), crossed lively river below the Loch, then SE on good deer tracks (possibly path?) past 2 lochans to climb via broad rib and then a gully next to a prominent rock tower, to gain the main ridge by a lochan. Around this and a steep easy climb to the summit, a fine viewpoint. Down NE over a bump, then steep grassy slopes on E side of ridge, then contoured NW below craggy W side of ridge to easy grassy gully to join the tedious, eroded, wet Bearnais path. Back the same way would have been better. | Gill | 26/09/2021 |
From Achintee, via Bernais path to col at NE end of ridge; back via Loch an Fheoir and Bendronaig path. Magnificent views, though Skye was hazy as rain was on the way. | IanHHill | 04/08/2021 |
From Achintee, round of Creag Dhubh Bheag, Creag Dhubh Mhor, Carn Geuradainn pair and Aonach Mor east Top. Second visit to the Graham | Colin Crawford | 17/06/2021 |
From Strathcarron, using the hydro-track as far as the bridge, then the stalkers' path up to Loch na Creadha. Then pathless rough ground ESE to the summit. Returned the same way. Solo. 10.7km, with 675m of ascent. Solo. | Man of Kernow1 | 22/05/2021 |
From Strathcarron via Carn Geuradainn. Descended NE then NW to hit Bearnish path, then back to Strathcarron. | quadbarrel | 26/04/2021 |
With Luna. Circuit of 10 tumps from Acintee. Stalkers paths both very good, the northern one to Bearneas has been bulldozed for the first couple of miles for a hydro scheme, accessible from the main road near the station. | BigNick | 25/09/2020 |
From Achintee via Bernais path (now partly a bulldozed track). A fine complex and craggy hill and a terrific viewpoint. Descent by W across rough open ground to Bendronaig Lodge path. Worst ever experience with deer keds today. | benalder284 | 20/09/2020 |
On the way back from Beinn Dronaig to Attadale, left bike on 300m contour. Including the tumps would have made for a nicer descent but ran out of time and capacity. | Topographer57 | 27/06/2019 |

Super little hill. Well positioned to view the big ones all around. Used unsightly new hydro track and then the bothy path which is marked by a couple of cairns | trimarc2 | 27/05/2019 |
Same as pwbellarby route via new hydro track. Not easily seen route back on to stalkers path - ? Needs sinposting, will contact Scotways. Up by gully to East of summit. Down via pwbellarby lochan but would not recommend this if snowy or wet as fairly steep and slithery. | willyross | 05/04/2019 |

Walked in from Achintee on a good track to NG 9845 3876. From Creag Dhubh Mhor W Top, and on to the NE Top. 4 tumps and 2 subs on the walk up here, and a sub and 2 tumps on the walk back. 21km, with Steve Lewis. | jonglew | 12/09/2018 |
Solo. From Strathcarron Hotel/Railway Station along track that starts beside the level crossing and which serves a run of the burn power system. About 100m beyond where this track crosses Allt Feadan Dhùghaill on a bridge is the present start of a path that leads up to the north of Creag Dubh Mhòr. The start of the path is marked by a cairn. Followed the path and then navigated in thick mist up the break in the cliffs. Took in Creag Dubh Mhòr NE Top, which has a small cairn. Mist lifted briefly to give wide ranging views. Continued in mist to the summit of Creag Dubh Mhòr. Nice to have such a well defined rocky summit. Went W to lochan at NG987404 and followed the burn from the outfall down to join path used on ascent, now clear of mist. | pwbellarby | 04/08/2018 |

Afternoon walk to this Graham with DW, SL and PM. Wet, cloudy, windy and a rather dull hill! | AGWilliamson | 31/12/2016 |
7th of 21 summits on a 14 hour overnight bagging adventure on the shortest night. Left Attadale at 6.45pm then 15 kms of lonely rough grass and bog over 11 assorted tops to reach Bendroniag Bothy at 11.15pm in rain and last of daylight for a 4 hour rest / 'sleep' on wooden floor in thin sleeping bag. Left at 3.30am at first light for 10 more tops and 18km back to Attadale for 9.00 am. Rained on and off for 80% of the time which had not been part of the plan. | Chris Pearson | 21/06/2016 |

W Jenx from Achintee. Blustery cold day, snow showers. Biting wind. Used stalkers path to gain high ground to NE of summit and over the main top. Collected an assortment of other summits. Stayed dry yet cold wind persisted till return to car. | nordicstar | 02/01/2015 |
from achintee along stalkers path to ridge and summit | robertphillips | 15/09/2014 |
Some years earlier during an epic Corbett bagging trip involving London sleeper trains, hangovers, full pack peak bagging & a very midgey Maol-bhuidhe bothy, I'd looked at Creag Dubh Mhor on the way out, but the thought of beer in the Strathcarron Hotel won out... Now from the house in Strathcarron with J & Shaky, took the more N of the two stalkers paths from Achintee (now a bulldozed hydro scheme track unfortunately). Followed this to due N of summit & then wound way up round crags to summit. Deer everywhere. Nearly trod on a very young calf. A superlative view E into the Monar hills & beyond. Over very rough ground to Carn Geuradainn & then descended SW to join the more southerly stalkers path back to Achintee. These days, probably best done from the S due to the hydro impact, sadly. | NotReallyABagger | 25/06/2014 |

On the way back to Achintee after Beinn Dronaig. The footpath traverses the lower slopes of the hill so decided to make the diversion to the top. Conditions had improved so the views were very good. | bowlesy | 27/08/2013 |

Parked in Achintee in hard standing next to a house (with permission). Over deer fence onto WDP by river as described by A Dempster. Over hillock, turned left at junction of paths over moor to a side river, 2 small waterfalls. Up to small col and ridge. Detours to avoid 6' crag lines and after a drop, to top at 11.45. | arranc | 08/08/2005 |
