One really interesting feature of this hill is the grassy 'earth hummocks', oval & up to a metre across. There are some near the top, but stand in the col to the E (with Great Staple Tor), especially late afternoon with sun behind the hill. They are an amazing sight, with these interlocking hummocks occupying the whole hillside, like ski moguls, but smaller. The whole area is a SSSI; these are periglacial features, formed by seasonal freezing & thawing of the ground.BrianMatthews28/05/2019

Accompanied by John, Becks and Alex, to the summit - supporting my 100 tors in 25 hours outing. Now 30km in and mid day heat building. John carried my sack up whilst I shovelled down milk, oats and banana after wolfing down a giant size tin of rice pudding. Becks and Alex in holiday mood enjoying ice creams from the busy 'Pork Hill' car park. From the summit they headed back whilst I headed NW for the long 5 hr roadless leg across the scorching arid moors to Postbridge, accompanied by faithful Flook the Hound.Chris Pearson22/07/2018
