Parked on minor road from Esingrug. Walked up road and then track, headed south on old mining track and then around the shoulder north and headed for the summit. Returned down to sheep fold and then joined minors track. Very wild and interesting. Fab views across to snowdonia and south. Quite rocky and boggy in places.Woolly Hattie05/10/2022

Circuit of Northern Rhinogs, starting from small woodland walks car park at SH626366. Took footpaths by Garth-byr, Coetty-mawr to eventually reach open hillside and climb Moel y Geifr. Descent to Llyn Eiddew-mawr and continued on W side. Continued SSE and eventually climbed the rough ridge to reach Clip. Continued along the ridge to Craig Ddrwg, Corn-y-stwc [Craig Ddrwg North Top], Moel Ysgyfarnogod, the two tops of Foel Penolau (the first requiring some care), Moel y Gyrafolen, Craig y Gwynt. Return by path running W to reach minor road via Caerwych, then path through woodland at Ceunant Coch to start. Some rough terrain and paths not always clear and some overgrown with bracken.RobertP30/07/2022
With Gmac as the guide. Followed the track until ijust over the shoulder I t veers to the right following the hill contour and along a seam of quarrying. Followed the hill round until at the fenced area with danger signs, used the path which led up to the trig. Fascinating landscape where natural and man made features entertwine. Superb views from the top. Snowdon peeking through the cloud and the site of a hill fort on the nearby hill.elizyanne12/07/2022
Started from the end of the minor road leading east from Eisingrug 62913 34251, A Six mile walk taking in Moel Ysgyfarnogod and Foel Penolau, this was a lot easier terrain than the main Rhinog's mainly grass with only a few rocky sections, Three and half hours in total.WAYNE ROWLETT15/05/2022
Mid afternoon from Cefn Clawdd. In two minds about it due to late start o next to shortest day of the year and light rain which looked threatening. Track goes well up, past the small plantation. Then head up to ow point in ridge where there is a stile. Opted for Foel Penolau first as weather was deteriorating. Could not see an easy option up crags so followed path which took me round west side where they became more broken. Easy then across to Moel Ysgyfarnogod Descended by ascent route using plantation as guide back to track as light faded - I had left my headtorch at home!dickscroop22/12/2021
A long hot day from Merthyr Farm campsite to the west to bag Moel Ysgyfarnogod and Foel Penolau. A detour to the 'crown of thorns' cairn at Bryn Cader Faner is highly recommended, along with the swim in Llyn Eiddew-bach on the way down.AndrewP20/07/2021

Early morning climb from sea level at Talsarnau to the summits of Foel Penolau and Moel Ysgyfarnogod via the Bronze Age cairn of Bryn Cader Faner. Great route at first but soon descended into bog and going was rather tough. After scaling the bare granite top of Foel Penolau, Moel Ysgyfarnogod could not have been different neighbour. An easy to spot path, a soft grassy summit, and an inviting trig to guide me. Rain stopped on the final ascent to reveal cracking views all around of the hills and estuary below. Great morning walk to blow away the lockdown cobwebs. Saw no one, save for the birds.MysteriousSue23/06/2021
From coed y brenin. 3rd visit. Today all about the badlands though. Stopped for lunch & had place to myself until about to leave another chap with dog approached. Left summit for him and headed for North top and beyond.stig_nest17/04/2021

Seven 5-600m summits between Trawsfynydd & Cwm Bychan with Rufus. Parked SH 68357 33605 off-road at quarry and walked towards Cefn Clawdd, track on right just before farm until small plantation then direct to gate and stile in NE corner of wall. Quick out and back to Moel y Gyrafolen then high ground over the tops to Clip. Return via Bwlch Gwylim and track down depression then increasingly boggy path/ROW NE/E to road again. Great hills, some tricky descents with the dog, sometimes taking big detours to avoid descending steep grit outcrops.jacobrichmond10/08/2020

From Moel-glo, limited parking but gives good high access. Follow miners track to upper path split near wall, right fork. Both tops visited, can return by going to the east side of the rocky bluff to pick up the other track that courses round on a strata level below 4-7m rock wall back to the lower Lakes. Easy way to learn the complexity of this rugged terrain.N.Morters12/04/2019

From Foel Penolau. Noticed last night that this is a Trail 100, which intrigued me as it was barely on my radar. Not an obvious peak by shape but assuming they mean the traverse of the whole ridge, I totally get it. Wasn't in the itinery but obviously had to walk the lot. On to south top.Wycombe Wanderer17/09/2016

Overcast most of the day, dry. Incredible rock scenery, good steady walk starting the weekend off nicely. Long drive up a very minor road to the start of the walk.joseph mitchell07/10/2005
Started at the end of the road from Eisingrug. Potentially easy walking, but it seemed even hotter than yesterday, and with little height gained for the first hour, I longed to ascend if only for a breeze. Finally some upward progress was made, with the grassy track hewn into a ledge on the side of the mountain before emerging at Llyn Du – literally “black lake” and aptly named. The track stopped here and it was simply a matter of skirting round the abandoned mines before a final pull to the summit trig point.peter4lc13/07/2005

Start ~ 685334. Took the track to below Moel Ysgyfarnogod, {it goes much further than is shown on the map} and then climbed directly for the summit. Then we moved NE to Foel Penolau before descending back to the track. With John Dummelow.steve hudson26/10/1996

from F P. Detour to N to avoid sheer drop over crag. Down and then up over tussock and 6inch snow to top at 14.40. Views of Portmadoc and Tremadog Bay. Saw no-one.arranc21/03/1987
From Fonlief Hir on a remote road- some parking, then a lakes walk- Eiddew Mawr, Eiddew Bach, Dywarchen then onto Moel Ysgyfarnogod and Foel Penolau. We then found paths to take us directly to Llyn Eiddew Bach and returned to Fonlief Hir on the N side of Llyn y Fedw- on the way out we went above it on its S side. Complicated- yes, the terrain- especially by the summits (well it is the Rhinogydd), but also finding the many paths and tracks, most used to access old Manganese workings. It's quite a fun challenge at times but they help make the going very good on this highly interesting walk. With Pete and Dad to both summits, Mom didn't scramble onto the fort- like crags round Foel Penolau, but accompanied us everywhere else.pwheeler20/07/1986
