Parked in the layby at Grid 74115105. back through the gate and continue close to the fence and wall on ATV tracks over boggy ground to the top and Trig point. Return the same way.smocks and denims23/09/2023
Walk up from Alston via the radio masts then on to summit following boggy path around the north side of wall. Crossed wall at small quarry and headed south to trig and small knoll. Cloud was down weather drizzly with bits of sleet. Returned to Blacklaw Cross then down byway to Blagill down minor road to south side of the River Nent which I followed back to Alston. Time taken 3 hours 10 minutes for 8.4 miles. Did see on the byway a line of Moles hung up on a barbed wire fence which seemed pretty barbaric and unnecessary to me.isabelle13/04/2023
Parked at Nenthall, walked along Isaac's Tea Trail to Alston. Up the Loaning then up past the masts at Newshield Moss. Very wet walk along the fence to Hard Rigg then back down to Blacklaw Cross and back to Nenthall. 3 hours, drizzly but decent visibilityGary Heath19/03/2023

Parked on track as it turns off for Foreshieldgrains - not possible to drive further. Followed green lane to Blacklaw Cross, then wall to hill top and trig pillar.jonglew07/03/2019
Drove up track as far as turn to Foreshieldgrains farm, end of road, good parking for one car. Up the soggy green lane before a forced but careful wall crossing, cross ties make this easy. Direct line to wall summit and another crossing. Back same way of a cold but clear daynordicstar04/12/2018
After bagging Ayle Common, crossed road and headed up the side of the trees. Best keeping to the East of the stone wall. Crossed the Isaac Tea Trail (aka the Long Cross) and chose to head up on the Cumbrian side of the wall near the second plantation. Very boggy. This was a mistake, should've gone up on the Northumbrian side. What appeared to be a well defined track was nearly all bog grass knee high making tough going. When got to the top of the hill with the old quarry, found myself faced with a stone wall with barbed wire. Luckily there was a small gate in the wall at the base of the hill, so returned to the gate and crossed into the Northumberland side. Followed the wall, crossed the fence, and reached the trig point on the Northumberland side of the wall. Headed back on the Northumberland side - was still boggy but not as bad as the Cumbrian side. Hit by a hard snow and hail storm on the way back.NorthernWayfarer28/10/2018

On way back from meeting at Gateshead. Out and back over rather wet ground from county boundary but nothing difficult.SS31/08/2016
Parked in good parking spot at NY 74484 50109. Walked across road to fence line running over the moor and followed this over Willyshaw Moss. Not too wet. There are some walk boards in various places in the first part of the walk. Onto Whitfield Law and then N to Pike Rigg. Reversed route to close to second cross fence and then over to Ayle Common taking in Tarn Rigg. Dropped down to the Ayle Burn at NY 73119 50162. Crossed Burn. Easy in the conditions. Up to pick up the Issac's Tea Trail and followed this to Long Cross. Turned R and followed wall to Hard Rigg. Notice says 'keep to track' as is a SSSI. No track so jumped over wall into forest. Ground wet. Came back down through SSSI following an old quod bike track to Long Cross and down all the way to the A686, This is the parking spot. Ground not too bad overall but I imagine it could be very wet after rain.MikeM08/06/2016

From end of minor road at at NY 75547 47310 (426m). Diary extract: There is sufficient room to park at the end of the minor road and off we went up the grassy track. I say grassy but the track was more like a stream after passing the entrance to Foreshieldgrains Farm. Mercifully the wetness soon petered out as the going got steeper. At the boundary fence we turned right and followed a faint path beside the wall to the summit. The terrain was surprisingly pleasant.David Gradwell26/07/2013
