3/3 Parked at the Bowness Knott Car park then walked up road to West, into open land and cut round behind the hill to rise up to summit through the brash. I lost the path which made for hard climb. Then back to the fence, up the little hill of Brown How for picnic and up the steep path to right hand side of Gill to reach top of Herdus. At which point I started enjoying the day!! Lovely walk along Herdus ridge and back down to the car. The rest was too steep for the humid day we chose. Heather very pretty.nickywood102/09/2022

Sunny but very windy. Went for the west end of the north Ennerdale ridge. Started with steep but rewarding ascent of Bowness Knott, then back down to col and up Brown How. Exciting path up gill onto Herdus requiring hands in places then over Great Borne, Gale Crag, Starling Dodd and Little Dodd with great views but wind made it hard work. Down to YH via Red Pike path and back along lake.BURGESS15/06/2021

Climbed with Walk the Lakes Group invited by Dave Tattum, led by Jes, with about 6 others. Set off from Bowness Knott car park Ennerdale at 09:30 straight up Herdus, steep climb then on to Great Bourne followed by Starling Dodd, Little Dodd and Red Pike returning via the path round the lake by 15:30. A little icy and some snow on the ground but no real need for spikes though they would have been helpful in one or two spots. Temperature about 3 degrees all day.karentracey09/12/2017
