Small cairn in pines after steep ascent from north. Pheasants everywhere in valley. | Denise | 24/11/2018 |
Parked in Penant Melangell, field path to forest edge then very steeply up to ridge line. Once on ridge easier going through mature Sitca Spruce(?) to summit cairn. Good view from edge of steep E slope. | RichardM | 24/11/2018 |

As if climbing Craig Rhiwarth direct wasnt enough my next hill was this swine. Theres no easy way of climbing it so after a bit of visual study I decided to attack up the prominent gully above pt 177m.
I cant say it was all that bad, about what you'd expect. Stupid steep. Lots of heather and billberries. Aside from the gradient theres no twchnical difficulties though. Poles were very useful for aiding balance. Its not often I make much fuss when I reach a top but upon arrival at the cairn 10ft into the trees I let out an emphatic woohoo. Descent via a gully further north. Again very steep but no other issues. One final note. Tshirt and shorts on this hill are a big no. Trust me I know now. | stig_nest | 13/05/2016 |
Part of my Wild Welsh wonder walk from Llangollen to Machynlleth via hills galore.
This day I walked from Llangynog to Llanuwchllyn via the Hirnants and took a track heading towards Pennant Melangell first branching off to access the fp that profiles the base of the hill (not easy to find the fp without compass!)I hid my backpack close to where a mountain stream runs into the Afon Tanat and headed up through the conifers, basically scrambling underneath and around them staying about 200metres from edge of forest line and open hillside. This hill is very steep from this side. The summit is marked by a few stones but the greatest reward for all that effort is the view of the valley looking back. The return was easy as the soft needles absorb the impact of the legs. I think this climb took something out of me. I went on footpath to join the minor road and then investigated the Yew trees at Pennant Melangell before continuing on a minor track up the upper Tanat valley. | Dazingdale | 06/05/2014 |
Parked just below Pwlliago at SJ 03075 25227 and took forest road past farmhouse and ruin into forest. Followed this as it wound up onto the plateau, turning right at a forest crossroads, over a gate and on up to near the summit of Pt.496m. Continued on road to bwlch, diverting right at edge of felled area to follow a firebreak (SJ 02523 25505) (blocked by a fallen tree) up to its end. Crossed to a small clearing visible beyond at SJ 02775 25470. From there the going up through the trees was quite easily managed to the cairn on a rocky outcrop at SJ 02844 25512. No view, but a walk a little way down to the east brings you to the cliff edge. Returned by outward route. With MJ and Dafyydd in dreich weather. | Man of Kernow1 | 15/12/2013 |
Asked permission to park at Pwlliago SJ030251 then via tracks and fire break to dead end walked into trees then walked between planted rows to top. Unearthed small pile of stones at SJ0284425512. | Anton | 18/02/2011 |
brutal direct ascent from S, summit just inside spruce, lovely view from edge. direct from S, keep L of direct line to avoid crags, unpleasantly steep near top | RHW | 27/03/2004 |
