Missing dog saga. A long quiet walk to reach top of Sittaford Tor from cottage near Chagford with Lesley and Flook the energetic German Pointer dog which we are looking after. On return Flook went AWOL in the huge Thornworthy Forest. I hurried back up all way from reservoir to Tor after report of dog being seen heading back that way - probably following our outward scent rather than return . Rain came on when L phoned me to say dog had made its own way 3 miles back home and was sitting in its basket! All's well that ends well. Passers by had been very helpful in search incl. a man who used his high pitched whistle skills - but to no effect, whilst his son told me about his Geography Uni dissertation measuring stream morphology before and after the reservoir and I could show off by talking about hydraulic radius and wetted perimeter to his astonishment. A dad and his 2 daughters who had been on their first ever camping trip - wild on the moors ,kindly gave me lift to road end.Chris Pearson10/08/2016
