Boo and I missed this one last time on the Dodd trailAlphaville19903/05/2024
Another slight diversion on the way down Groove Beck from Great Dodd, near perfect conditions but still a few hundred metres of harmless swamp to splash through on the col. Contemplated heading N straight down to the old coach road, but stuck to the original plan of joining it at the Grooove Beck ford, for the long slog back to St John's.agentmancuso31/08/2023

7/8 Used Birkett route up to Threlkeld Knotts and on to Clough Head (cracking route) then dropped down to White Pike, contoured right round to Calfhow Pike on good sheep trods, then passed Little Dodd to reach Great Dodd, and dropped down wet bridleway to Randerside and Matterdale Common, down to the Old Coach Road, and right to road at High Row, to pick up track into woods and summit Cockley Moor using the track right round the top of the hill (easy over cut trees), return to St Johns all the way on the Old Coach Road. Lovely route and Cumbrian hills 999 - 1002 for us!nickywood108/10/2020

Nice to see the 3 large dry stones shining in the sunshine. Fond memories of uncovering them in 2007! A lovely sunny day with Alfie.Dangerous Dave22/03/2020
Wintry weather today made a dull top more interesting. Nice views across to Pennines. With R and B.jenx16/12/2019
A very wet and very windy fell run in the clouds. Having parked just outside Dockray near Green How, took the path along the Aura Beck Valley to Dowthwaitehead. Then took a long steep climb upto Birkett Fell and Hart Side. properly in the weather now, no time for stopping, continued along the ridge to Green Side, and up onto Stybarrow Dodd, Watson's Dodd and Great Dodd. Although originally planned to continue over to Clough Head, due to the weather, decided to call it a day, and drop down over Randerside and Brute Moss. Under the clouds was a fairly pleasant and still day. Having joined the Old Coach Road I met a mass a sheep being heard into a next field just outside Lucy's Wood. Having skirted round the edge of these sheep. Then a short way down the road back to the car, wet and very muddy, I drove over to Ulswater for a wash. 2hrs: 14.5km; 611mByronHaywood04/09/2019

With Eire & Evan. The last hill on the last day of the summer holidays. This was an unnamed summit at the time so we called it Wolfcrag Moss. We discovered the 3 stones forming the cairn by clearing off the turf and moss. It felt like no-one had seen the cairn for many years.Dangerous Dave29/08/2007
