Logged Descriptions  (logged by 17 users)ByDate of Ascent
Parked by the big gate, up along the path, 150m of which is overgrown with new growth spruce and a bit jungle-like. A gate gives access to a field of bracken and another gate that doesn't open back into the trees/saplings. Then 100m of bushwhacking through saplings, felled trees, water filled holes and boulders. Spaniel managed fine, Dachshund needed help.borderterrier15/06/2024
Followed the track up. Nice and easyAndrew Simmons25/01/2023
P track junc to S & followed Jon's route round & up easily enough. On to Troston Hill. Not convinced by the boulder.agentmancuso18/03/2022
auchengray hill and troston hill from the track to the south.robertphillips23/04/2021
From NX 9316 6713, parking for 2 cars without blocking the gate. Good track to NX 9294 6794, then sharp left turn and follow the wall up to the corner where a gate allows easy access to the old felled forest - then 125m of awkward ground. On to Troston Hill.jonglew06/11/2020
From track to south, then up through brash, bracken and vague crags, the latter quite fun. Clear felled on top but the brash not too difficult. I'd agree with Rob that the high point is marked by a large and obvious tree stump. I headed north down the field, intending to add Trostan, but thought better of it when viewing large areas of felling and brash. I returned via the track which circles the hill east and south, though it proved very rough indeed until I was nearly back at my start pointColin Crawford08/08/2020
From N, after Troston, down sw then wall down and up, gate into wood, felling ongoing (not at 8pm), summit clear, large tree stump, sunset, easily back along wall and trackRHW14/04/2018
Surprisingly pleasant open mature woodland with birds singing and no thrashing necessary. Hp is mossy outcropping boulder. Accessed through field gate to NW and descended south across felled slopes back to track and road.Denise 23/03/2018
Forest track from road to S. Track emerges into skheep grazed field, S along wall to top corner of field where gate enters open pine forest. Direct descent of steepish S slope then feint MTB trail through clear felled forest.RichardM23/03/2018
Parked at start of track to S, then followed the road round through the felled area and up rides through woods to summit. MessyThearlaichdubh17/07/2017
Track from S to gate to field. Nice path in trees to level with field walls jnct then SE to top.chrisbien27/05/2017
From road to south. Recent felling allowed for direct approach from track were there is a faint path at sharp right bend.To be sure i also visited heathery knoll to south of trees in summit region which looked to be as high.cjo07/05/2017
From track at corner in road to S. Followed track until roughly E of summit then up through forestry (plenty of space between trees) summit mound in trees.RobertP17/01/2016
