Parked in the layby on the A595 immediately before the turning to Whicham church, although plenty of space in the community car park by the church (voluntary donation). Followed the winding track up to Black Combe and it's S Top. Hazy views but I imagine the view down the coast line from the large cairn on the S Top would be impressive. Cloudy and breezy walk. From Whitbeck parking (SD119839), N along PFPs on E side of intake walls (no waymarkers of any kind) to Holegill, then up RoW NE, then SE, to top. Down S ridge to Seaness, then NW down non-RoW towards Whitbeck - no exit to farm, but a faint FP cuts around E side of copse to emerge at PFP sign 300m SE of phone box.Isbjorn21/01/2023

An ascent of Black Combe from Beckside following AW's route to the summit, returning by the Gray Stones ridge. Bagged the following summits along the way: White Hall Knott, White Combe, Black Combe Trig, Black Combe South Top, Stoupdale Head and Gray Stones. 16km with 770m ascent in 4 hours. Our plan was to park on the minor road to the north to tackle Black Combe and Whitfell from the same parking spot. We just got through the road from the west by a matter of minutes before the closed it for a few weeks to replace the cattle grid. A reasonable three mile walk in from the north, mainly on feint paths. Blustery but dry day so made use of the shelter. Found one geocache before heading back north on a modified route to make better use of paths.Father Ted25/10/2021
With Val. Parked in lay-by near Church at Whicham. Past church yard short section of lane then good path to summit. Good weather but clouds covering summit so no view. (There is a car park adjacent to the church where parking is allowed with donations requested and an honesty box).mike.hoult23/08/2021

Parked at Bootle football field and proceeded to the fell wall then joined the looping gentle path to the left from the highest stone wall. Weather was breezy and cloudy with an occasional burst of sun on the ascent. Reached the shelter just before we were enveloped in 40mph cloud for 20 mins. Sun burst through and we could see everything we wished for except Snowdonia. Descent down the front of the fell in almost a straight line down to the lower fell wall.nukeboy122/06/2017

4th hill of 5 today with my daughter Katherine on a route from Green Road station to Silecroft via Knott Hill, Swinside or Sunkenkirk stone circle, Raven Crag and Stoupdale Head. Great views and sunshine from the start to Raven Crag and from there intermittent mist until Stoupdale Head where we were immersed in cloud. A good training walk for Katherine who has signed up for the Keswick to Barrow walk this summer! We headed for Black Combe South top after this.Dazingdale01/04/2017

From Whicham church: Black Combe, Stoupdale Head, White Combe and White Hall Knott. Good day, fair views to Blackpool Tower and Seascale Power Station. Difficult to navigate paths that don't seem to be walked too often when the bracken is chest high.Lazylizzie15/08/2015
Beautiful summer's morn and a solo walk from Silecroft village up the path to cairn 300m or so south of summit, then to summit, back down northern side and then via Bootle to the station. Easy navigation, stiff climb up but worth it for excellent views of Lakeland, Isle of Man and, just, Snowdonia. One tip; if you think you may have passed the summit, keep going, you haven't.JOHNS14/08/2015

Undicided today about what to do, do I go out on the motorbike or the mountain bike. As soon as I took Archie for his 7am walk and saw that there was no cloud above the Combe and the forecast had been good the mountain bike won. Parked at the church and set off on the trudge up to the summit, never worked so hard for a cache. Well worth the effort as the reward of the view on offer was good today.Snakes7706/06/2014

Afternoon ascent and beacon fire was being constructed on summit. Camped on summit of Whitfell later with Jamie on a spectacular evening, it was the Queens jubilee evening it was also a very good sunset and also full moon day with weather just right to have fo clouds on horizon so we saw full moonrise to the SE shortly after sunset to the NW and then 45mins later The beacon that we'd seen being made earlier was lit and about 13/14 others were visible all the way across the Se Pennines and down as far as Blackpool tower. I anticipated poss of a good sunrise next day too so set my alarm in our little tent and went out to watch and it was indeed one of the best, Spectacular 7-10 hours.vegibagger04/06/2012
