A walk with Alma Aurea up Fan Brycheiniog. We might have done a longer route but the good weather forecast kept changing and in the end we started late (and nearly didn't go at all). We walked up the valley to Llyn y Fan Fawr with the cloud just about clearing off in front of us, some showers and wind. It cleared off the main summit just in time so we continued up and finally the sun came out, but only late afternoon! So we visited Fan Foel and then Fan Hir on a ridge descent, but Bannau Sir Gaer - Picws Du will have to wait for another day. Beautiful once it cleared. /D | meltdiceburg | 22/10/2023 |

From road at 856223 followed marked track. Too many tracks. Kept north of marked route, maintaining height. Llyn y Fan Fawr tarn made the day with it's lofty companion for a backdrop. Bring your cossy, one feller swinmming. Made up the paved steps to Bwlch Giedd. Easy climb on to the trig and cairn. Great bag. With Tiárnan. | Pete West | 02/06/2023 |

Climbed from the road to the NW as a detour before the Picws Du ridge. The cairn on the new N top was (luckily) an obvious detour anyway from this side. Very nice steep-edged peak over the lake, even if not quite as dramatic as the western edges. | poppiesrara | 08/08/2010 |
had lunch here as it was quieter than brycheiniog! | maknipe | 30/06/2010 |
Hazy solo walk from Dan y r Ogof, via Fan Hir. There are two good Bronze Age cairns, one on the northern summit (not where the trig is) and another on Fan Foel that has been restored, please don't mess it about! From here descent to Llyn y Fan Fawr and Ce | thesweetcheat | 05/06/2010 |

Left car at 856223 (14:40) and followed faint contouring path in mist over stream and then up hillside to lake. Good path up scarp to ridge and along it to summit (then Trig Point)(15:40). Went on via new summit (15:45) to Fan Foel (15:50) at apex. Cloud cleared on way down; good views and sunshine. Car 17:05. | dbb | 11/10/2009 |

The best circuit, from Blaenau to the NW; up Sychnant - up to Fan Foel - Fan Brycheiniog - Fan Hir - Bannau Sir Gaer - Waun Lefrith - down to the llyn and back. Great escarpment tramping. | Mark Jackson | 09/07/2009 |

A fantastic circular walk from pub north of Glyntawe along the path across the moors behind Brycheniog north of Disgwylfa then followed the Afon Twrch up to Picws Du onto Fan Brycheniog and Fan Hir and back down Beacons Way to the pub. One of my favourite summits. Good use made of the shelter at Fan Brycheiniog summit. Walked in from the east past the llyn. Quite wet underfoot. | G4OIG | 05/01/2008 |
Abney Level gave the cairn base as just higher than the trig base of Fan Brycheiniog. However uncertainty prevails as the device is not sufficiently accurate over a distance of 290m when height differences | jimbloomer | 29/10/2007 |

On a perfect late winter day with Smithy from Tafarn-y-Garreg. Followed the Beacons Way gradually gaining height on frosty ground all the way to the summit. Continued round the edges to W of Llyn y Fan Fach & then followed path down to the dam. Walked back along the track underneath the escarpment on the Beacons Way back to the start. A great day out. | NotReallyABagger | 13/03/2005 |
The walk from Fan Hir to the reigning peak of this group of mountains was relatively easy. There is a twin summit, with both the trig point and a cairn a few hundred yards further on exactly the same height. | peter4lc | 13/06/2004 |

Followed the ridge along to Bannau sir Gaer before having to drop down and then climb again up to Twr fan Foel, from there it was an easy stroll along the ridge to Fan Brycheiniog and Fan Hir. From Glyntawe via Garreg Las, a route through limestone badlands and remote moorland. Some fine limestone tops then, encountering a Merlin on the way, onto the sweeping sandstone scarps and ridges including the beautiful summit ridges of the Marilyn top. Relatively straightforward way back, fine ridge over Fan Hir- a big walk in both its atmosphere and distance (17 miles) with brother Pete. 2nd visit to Fan Brycheiniog and Fan Hir. | pwheeler | 06/04/1997 |
