From the Knockan Crag CP where the geological trail path leads up to a view point. We crossed a post and wire fence just beyond this and plodded up to Meall Odhar. Continuing south over hags, heather and cotton grass brought us to Meall nan Dearcag, then ESE to the broken ridge that leads on to the summit of Meall Coire an Lochain. We returned by a different route ... more peat hags etc to the north end of Loch Odhar and around Meall Odhar back to the geological tour path.summitter26/05/2024

With Malky in strong wind and some light rain, with low cloud from start, from Knockan Crags, during Shills meet. Morton's came on but not too bad. Rounsfell07/10/2023

From lay by 173059, down to cross An Leth-Allt near the sheep pen, then up the Allt Cul an Fheur Loch on good animal tracks. Past Feur-Loch and up the hill at 194059, contouring S of the bump, then to pt 454 finding fence posts to follow. Down to a haggy dip then to the summit. Longer route but good for simple non-GPS navigation in intermittent poor visibility with the added bonus of good scenery (lochs, crags, views). Snow and frozen bogs made easy going low down but, whichever route you use, you won't avoid hags higher up, so the going gets really tough towards the top in snow.Gill27/11/2021
From Knockan Cliff, not too bad underfoot! Good view.davechaffey23/05/2021
From Knockan Crag CP via a couple of tumps. Fortunately fairly dry underfoot. Peat hags tedious coming back, but the view from the top of bigger hills in all directions snow-covered was superb - worth the effort.nicolajane07/05/2021
From layby 184079. Cloud down so no visibility. Very wet underfoot. Didnt really enjoy this one.NormanW23/07/2020
From Knockan Crag car park. Up path to south then round Meall Odhar and up north ridge. Back furher south. Superb panoramic views from summit. Very rough terrain, particularily as this was first hill for almost 9 months, just 5 days after 5 mile lockdown lifted.Coinneach08/07/2020
From the geological car park. Up the path to get above the crags then over complex hillocky terrain to pick up the ridge path to the west. Return similar way. Autumnal low cloud/fog banks occasionally hiding the view, but in equal measure making stunning vistas as they billowed over peaks to the west.N.Morters24/11/2019
2 and 6 of 7: Out from Meall nan Dearcag. Return from Meallan Odhar.ChrisR26/05/2018
skirted north of Meall Odhar to Loch Odhar then north shoulder to summit. Returned to south of Loch a' Phris and Meall Odhar.davidsbatty05/05/2018
From grass verge of A835 at 181070, via minor cols NE of 402m tump. Both the terrain and ground underfoot are rough and locally wet and made for slow progress. Nice views of Inverpolly hills to the west. Returned via the tump summit.Topographer5702/09/2017
As Nordicstar says don't be tempted by track to mast. Parked off road by lochan and contoured/switchbacked eastwards and up to summit which had surprisingly big cairn. Bit heathery/tussocky/haggy but not too bad.AndrewFinnimore29/01/2017
Not sure this is the best route really, but as others went up the muddy track to transmitter, then across tops and bottoms.jenx23/07/2016
From the road point by access to the mast. Went to top of this and over the tump top but a mistake as this leads into a rough hag strewn hollow below the summit. Better to cut up off the antenna path at 300m shoulder and seek a rightward contouring line atound the hills at about 350m until the SW ridge of the Marilyn can be gained. Much quicker this way on return.nordicstar23/07/2016

From campsite on northwest slope of Meall an Fhuarain. Then south to Beinn Chroisg.Alan Moore03/06/2011
Park before Knockan centre. Over first rise on GPS to left under Meall Odhar sporadic line of old fence posts over 6 or 7 ridges to final cross ridge and pleasant grass gully for last 1/2 mile to top ridge. 11.55. No view - mist.arranc18/06/2007
