From car park at Loch Doon Castle via marked trail to Wee Hill of Craigmulloch. Then on an intermittent path, boggy at times, down to the Nick of the Mahm and up to summit of Craiglea. | Winterfloodian | 03/10/2024 |
After Wee Hill of Craigmulloch - from the CP at Loch Doon Castle. | summitsup | 22/09/2024 |
From the Castle car park. Waymarked route up to Wee Hill of Craigmulloch first, then took a direct line across to here. | jonglew | 11/04/2024 |
Parked at Loch Doon castle, surprisingly busy with camper vans. Up the signed path, then quite rough, tussocky going over Mulluss to cut across to the main hill. Good views at the top to the Galloway Corbetts which still had some snow on them. Returned taking a slightly more north easterly line around Mulluss. | Owen B | 30/03/2024 |
Up path from castle on a very windy day. | daviemore | 20/10/2023 |
Form Loch Doon Castle, via blue waymarked path to the Wee Hill. Tussocky descent southwards to make a circulare route via the Forest Drive. | Grinner | 08/10/2023 |
Craiglee Trail from Loch Doon Castle CP to Wee Hill of Craigmulloch and intermittent path over to Craiglee. | summitter | 07/06/2023 |
An absolute cracker and worth saving for a fine day. Parked in the deep lay-by 200 yards S of Craigmulloch toll house, walked back along the road to the pleasant, grassy marked path from near the castle to the Wee Hill. Then a descent through heather to an intermittent path across the col and up Craiglee. Returned the same way, apart from taking the traverse path close in to the southern slopes of the Wee Hill. | Nick Down1 | 26/05/2023 |
From Loch Doon Castle CP | PaulineD | 27/03/2023 |
From the castle car park via Wee Hill of Craigmulloch. Solo. | Dangerous Dave | 27/01/2023 |
From the castle via Wee Hill. | Longwojo | 02/10/2022 |
From Loch Doon castle up waymark path to Wee Hill of Craigmulloch then across to Craiglee on vague path. Returned to WHofC but took trail to upper car park to check access for Hoodens Hill (forest drive is closed but road is open to first cp on drive). | SS | 17/08/2022 |
Not what it says on the tin. Good FP starts at FC SP ‘Craiglea Trail’ from parking at Loch Doon Castle (NX483949). There are no more waymarkers until the well-worn path deposits one just before the summit – of Wee Hill of Craigmulloch. An intermittent path leads down to the waterlogged bealach, then a classic grassy moorland path up to Craiglee. In descent, from the col, there is a tiny path goes off SE, tight under the SW flank of the Wee Hill – find it or weep as you’ll otherwise be in terrible tussock terrain – it emerges back on the main tk up the Wee Hill (you’d never spot it on the way up) | Isbjorn | 15/05/2022 |
ELMA SUILVEN | donmeister | 01/05/2022 |
From Loch Doon Castle with descent and re-ascent. Last one of three that day for SOTA using short wave. | G4OBK (Phil) | 07/03/2022 |
3 of 3: From the Wee Hill of Craigmulloch. Very hot and sunny. with Karen. | ChrisR | 24/07/2021 |
From FLS car park, follow signed trail along mown grass path. This crossses gravel road, look left, path continues onto minor summit with a greatview. Look left to see your next target. It will likely be mushy dmp and wet across flat area…..quick steps. As the path contunues ir becomes a bit vaguer…..
This area is v popular with dat trippers, picnics, and ogg grid campers…. | VerySlowPlodder | 14/05/2021 |

A nice walk from the castle. A very easy, mainly grassy path all the way up Wee Hill of Craigmulloch; shame that the hill has been badly burned all over the top. No obvious path to Nick of the Mahm because of the fire but a path reappears below and goes most of the way up Craiglee. Rather windy on the top and misty but clearing on the way down. | Gill | 25/01/2020 |
As others, parked at the Loch Doon Castle Car Park & up well-used Craiglee Trail which takes a fairly direct line to the summit cairn on Wee Hill. From Wee Hill, along faint, intermittent path over fire-damaged terrain to the summit rock & trig point on Craiglee. Same route back to car. (S) | gerrybowes | 18/06/2019 |

Hot sunny day. | George Thompson | 18/07/2017 |
2nd hill of 12 on an epic crazy day in wonderful sunshine. I parked up at the Loch Doon castle car park and climbed Wee Hill of Craigmulloch then headed over here continuing on towards Waterhead. 1 1/2 hours later i would make a 2nd ascent as i tediously followed my gps route searching for my lost car keys! | Dazingdale | 08/05/2017 |
From the Wee Hill, solo, in very dry conditions. 1.75 hours and just over 3 miles . | bolton | 01/05/2017 |
From Castle Doom car park, up the marked trail over the Wee Hill first. Glorious sunshine | N.Morters | 22/04/2017 |
Up Craiglee Path and across to summit after treeline, some tussocky stuff but nothing too bad. Great viewpoint over to Arran and N to Arrochar Alps, etc. | AndrewFinnimore | 18/04/2017 |
From Loch Doon Castle via Wee Hill of Craigmulloch on a faint path. | Chris Peart | 17/12/2016 |
FP from Doon Castle (to SE) goes over Wee Hill of Craigmulloch. Advise same route back as lower vegetation rough | carole engel | 14/09/2016 |
My first visit to Loch Doon. From the castle, followed Criglea (sic) trail. Keeping to right forks and following the best trodden path took me, as I anticipated, to Wee Hill of Craigmulloch (qv). From there, it was not bad going to Craiglee. Faint trods led to a path in a firebreak and to forest roads so I followed these, with the heart of Galloway's mountains as the view in front. Why the paths? There is a monument cross in this out of the way terrain! Good views of the river, Carrick Lane, from the forest drive just before getting to the tarmac. | pwheeler | 13/05/2016 |
From Loch Doon Castle, via W H of C to col and then direct line to top. Came off it SE to contour around South side of Mullus on Trod. | Anton | 08/05/2016 |
Nice sunny afternoon bag (solo). Went up from Loch Doon castle, following trail initially. | assynt_bob | 19/04/2016 |
Dry, sharp wind, cold, good views. | iangalbraith | 17/04/2016 |
A fine hill with good views. All snowy with a fierce wind today. | jenx | 30/01/2016 |
Penultimate Section 27 Marilyn w Jenx, from the large CP by relocated castle. Easy up the Craiglee Trail path. Option to head up over the Wee Hill of Craigmulloch or cut into the burn and head more directly. Generally easy going. Big snow showers added to the effect, good views to Corsorine and the Rhinns of Kells | nordicstar | 30/01/2016 |
craiglee and wee hill of craigmulloch from the castle carpark. | robertphillips | 29/03/2015 |
Wee Hill of Craigmulloch / Craiglee from Loch Doon Castle. | Jim Cooper | 24/05/2014 |
Wee Hill of Craigmulloch / Craiglee from Loch Doon Castle. | Sue Cooper | 24/05/2014 |
Best ascended from Loch Doon castle. Open forest drive facilitates access from the south west. Beware of staying too long on the marked Craiglee Trail or accessing it from the car park at 475942, the trail goes nowhere near the summit. The summit area is rough and trackless, and the surrounding forests do not give comfortable off-trail walking. | Topographer57 | 17/05/2014 |
From yellow road by Loch Doon by a roundabout way, bwo Big Hill of Glenmount amongst others. | Alan Moore | 16/04/2014 |
Gloaming ascent from the castle, and descent in near darkness SE. Rough going! | Man of Kernow1 | 02/01/2011 |

Revisit. Nice summit, grass & rock, fine view. From SE, Castle, Craiglea (sic!) Trail then path along N edge of plantation, bypass steep knoll then straight up. Fairly tussocky in places. | RHW | 08/02/2009 |
Straightforward ascent from Loch Doon castle. | agentmancuso | 31/12/2007 |
A quick walk with Shaky from near Craigmulloch up the gap in the trees & on to Wee Hill Of Craigmulloch. Wandered over to the summit of Craiglee. Extended the walk by heading SW to pass Ballochling Loch & following the forest edge all the way down to Loch Riecawr before heading back E along the Forest Drive to the start. | NotReallyABagger | 27/12/2007 |
Round of Wee Hill of Glenmount and Craiglee from the castle. | Eddie | 21/03/2003 |
Parked by the rebuilt castle ruins. Faint paths led up over spongy dead lank grass and around newish plantings. Uphill by a stream and a wet buggy path into a broad col. More spongy stuff to gentle slopes via crags to a neat cairn and trig column without FB 200m west. 15.15. | arranc | 03/05/2002 |
Date is first visit. Notes from later...fine summit, decent view, interesting little castle + see TrigpointingUK.com. from Doon Cas @ 483950, good path to skyline then easyish tussock to summit | RHW | 13/11/1999 |
From Castle C.P. Faint path through trees, tussocks and heather. Over Wee Hill, down to Nick, then up Craiglee. Summit Trig, cairn and rock; wee beer for 40th next day. With Martin A. | The Captain | 30/08/1997 |
