Parked in car park to south, along BW then up. Not the easiest to get to, due to walls. My last English and Welsh Marilyn. Great views.PeterD24/04/2024
From Kings Youth hostel. Glorious weather giving fabulous views of Cadair Idris.Peterb15/04/2023
Walked up from our B&B in Dolgellau at 7am on Easter Sunday. Simple to access from the east via the footpath, although would involve bashing through bracken later on in the yearRichard09/04/2023
From south side car parkjef29/03/2023
4 mile run loop with Erin from the Pony Path car park to Hafod Dywyll then east .. we started heading up at SH695164 following sheep trods up passed the boulder art which looks like a bored farmers lockdown project we found an obvious human trod higher up which took us to summit followed it back down along edge of trees to gate on main track at SH700165 then back through trees and side of lake ..milejunkie15/02/2023
Walked up from Dolgellau on a sunny but very windy day. Approached via Gellilwyd. Cattle roam the first section but ignored us for the most part. The double feature 'lane' was filled with water, so we headed south up the gap between the summit and eastern outcrops, which gives a nice easy route to the top. Fantastic views all round, if a little difficult to stand up in the wind. We descended SW then followed the wall down, which proved to be extremely steep and slippery. From here we visited the fine Bronze Age cairns on the saddle, before returning to Dol as it was getting dark.thesweetcheat09/11/2022
On last morning on a Denise organised trip to kings YHA. Nice walk through woods and pasture.cjo17/10/2022

Anticlockwise route from Kings YH - Craig y Castell 1, Craig y Castell 2 (complete with thunder & lightening on summit) and Dol Gledr. Hail storm on descent. Boggy, tussocky route.richard6915/10/2022
Gmac parked at old cemetery. Good walk up bike track and seemed to find a path up through bracken. Beautiful evening, picturesque spot. Negotiating a route down through bracken proved much more challenging. Happy days xelizyanne15/07/2022
From car park to SW. Lovely sunny evening. Glorious views of North face of Cader Idris in evening sunshine. On way down got disoriented and surprisingly off route too far NW Once realised had to track south and SE again.vegibagger13/06/2022
Route up from Cemetry car park as per John Glew, but descended off East around forest to rejoin byway, the footpath through wood past Lake to caravan sight then PROW back to hostel. 5.25 miles under 2.5hrs walking time. Really pleasant circuit.JulieB03/01/2022
Nice walk from the single parking place available by the access gate at Gallilwyd Fawr. Climbed with judy55cat Lovely easy walk around the back of the hill via 6972 1614 so approach from south to grassy top. Good views to Cadair Idris which is to save for another day when my achilles heals up! Operated ham radio for SOTA on summit using short wave and Morse Code.G4OBK (Phil)15/06/2021
route as per ger from stone feature used rentrant ne of summit easy but then decended west should have retraced for return brilliant views of Cadairunderhill30/03/2021
Much easier than expected. Parked at Ty Nant. Went East through forest on track to avoid the sun, then on through field. At the stone wall, followed faint but definite path along the wall all the way to top. Fantastic views, esp of Cadair.huwthomas31/07/2020
From Gelliwydd Farm, small space near telegraph post, up track then at ruin building turned right along wall to pick up track (starts unpromising as steep grassy field) but track easily picked up above. At gate in wall headed up faint path, improves higher up near forest wall to summit. 2/4 MarilynN.Morters18/01/2020

Parked car park for Cadair Idris, past farm up south slope. Lots of hideous bracken, must be an easier way.iangalbraith20/07/2019
13.5 mile, 3304ft walk.stephenbuda15/06/2019
Parked at the cemetery (SH 6818 1578). Woodland track to YHA Kings, then RoW up through Hafod-dywyll farm. Lot of dying bracken on the slopes after leaving the RoW.jonglew07/10/2018
P near cemetery to SW of Kings YH. Followed a nice woodland path down to near YH then obvious tracks to E. Left track and aimed for a mini Stonehenge feature located at SH 69728 16396 (is it ancient?). Then the inevitable heather/bracken thrash - following feint animal tracks helps. Nice little hill.ger27/09/2018

3/4 Marilyn day. Craig y Castell from the Cadair Idris car park. Good views of the Mawddach estuary and north face of Cadair Idris. A round trip of 3.3km in 1 hour. (S)silveracorn_alan23/09/2018
From King's YHA, along the old road: we headed for the gully filled with head high bracken, a maze in which we found, by trial and error, tunnels made by sheep. The grassy trods nearer the forest wall that we used for descent were much better and we should have used them to ascend, too. Good viewpoint on an OK day for weather turning showery. Back on the old road, we turned off R for Llyn Gwernan, over field paths to the pay car park, then returned via Nant-y-gwyrddail to Cregennan lakes (free) car park. We'd started our walk from there over Pared y Cefn-hir(qv for log), by far the better of the two summits. A very good day out with Pete, in impressive and beautiful surroundings.pwheeler10/09/2018
Easy walk up from Cadair Idris car park, although stone wall scrambling is unavoidable. Despite the poor forecast the view across to its much greater neighbour was complete.Topographer5709/05/2018
#635 Standard route from Kings.tim74714/03/2018
Cheese & biscuits after RHW's Wtc. On way home. Misty.ngthack19/02/2018
Summit is on rock and grass tower with heathery top and small cairn. Approached from ridge to N, after ascent from King's YH via farm track.Light rain and low cloud after a lovely weekend.Denise 18/02/2018
An easy and very pleasant aperitif before RHW's Welsh tump completion, with Rob and Alex. From King's YHA, along the bridleway, and then onto grassy trods more or less all the way up, with optional heather bashing. Fun descent straight from the summit down a gully filled with dead bracken.Gill18/02/2018
Revisit with Alex and Gill, from Kings YH, on an unexpectedly sunny morningRHW18/02/2018
Perfectly just enough time to fit this in as an easy after-breakfast Sunday morning stroll before heading over to Llynau Cregennen for the day's main event. With Rob and Gill.Twice Shy18/02/2018

With Trefor. From car park, track then fields to summit.mike.hoult29/11/2016
I stayed overnight at the outstanding King's YHA. The Warden gave me and Allan Jones a parking permit for the morning so we were able to easily access the good footpath from the top of Hafod dywyll farm yard for quick progress towards the summit.M0YDH23/09/2016
made mistake by going for direct route off track deep heavy going heather/bilberryjohnowen07/07/2016
Staying at YHA Kings, gentle stroll along BOAT to a point NNW of summit. Followed farm vehicle track to base and followed path (sheep track)up steep north side. Lovely summit nestled between CAdair Idris and The Rhinogs. Took a different more direct route back to YH south of BOAT following walls and then rough farm road not shown on map.mntainman11/03/2016
Nice 45 min out n back from Gellilwyd. Room for 1 small car. Boggy in places and heathery in others. Summit is one of those spots where you could linger for hours. The view into the geart of the Cadair Idris group is stunning. No empty beer bottles at this top unlike the previous Ffridd Cocyn -please, lets keep it that way eh! For everyones sake.stig_nest28/02/2016
Parked at a layby just south of Pont Ty-gwyn 682165 and walked to Kings YH and on to farm at 686159. South on bridleway for a short distance then east on track signed for Dolgellau which leads pleasantly to the rough north slopes of the hill. From the top continued west to rejoin the path at a gate and on to springs at 707168. Looped back on the well signed paths and bridleways via Llyn Gwernan. Very pleasant.mindlessflogger11/10/2015
after Cadair in morning. Parked at Kings YH where I was staying and took the wrong path along the stream and over 7 barbed wire fences. The right path from Kings is to North, followed by a bracken thrash to summit. Lovely summit.Thearlaichdubh16/09/2015
With Jenx from just above Kings YH. Asked permission and parked at farm. Easy track up to summit.nordicstar29/06/2015
Parked in the Ty Nant (overflow) car park for Cadair Idris (SH 69827 15297) - £2.50 for 4 hours, £5 for all day. Took track to Tyddyn-Evan-fychan then left RoW above Ffrwdd-y-brithyll through fields, then climbing steeply up through bracken and heather to summit - two walls to climb, but without barbed wire. Walk continued north to other Craig-y-Castell. With AT and JT.Man of Kernow111/04/2015
From the car park (£) to the S at SH698153. Route and write-up shown at: http://gayleybird.blogspot.co.uk/2014/12/rhobell-fawr-and-craig-y-castell.htmlGayle31/12/2014
From the car park to the south. Past the farm and the caravans directly to the summit and return within the hour. With GB.bolton02/10/2014
Car park to south (£2.50 for 4 hours) Followed waymarked path to right of caravans & farmhouse Through new gateway & up steep S. slopes to summit, crossing two walls on route. (PM)gerrybowes02/10/2014
Dry but misty end to the day after a damp and depressing start to the day. This hill was not too bad a consolation after I had to abort my plan of bagging outlying Cader Sims.Alex C25/09/2014
