KJF Ascended using FP from E heading for Gyrn Ddu first, before calling at Bwlch Mawr on the way back which is probably the least stony approach - using one of the ladder stiles W of the summit just N of the wall junction. Fine view across vale to Snowdonia though low cloud interfering while at the summit. Views improved through the day so we got clear views on the way down. | crazy | 02/07/2024 |
First in a 4 hour circuit of this top, Gyrn Ddu and Gyrn Goch starting and finishing from Clynnog Fawr. Only met 2 people in all that time, despite wonderful walking conditions, cool, dry and sunny. | desperate dan | 20/04/2024 |
From Llanaelhaearn, fine dry stone walling, excellent summit, well worth it. | richardrosser | 08/09/2023 |
From Pen-y-Gaer, following an ATV track for a bit, over a few walls. Descended W to top of path by wood, then down interestingly across steep slopes through the trees, via Cwmgwared. | Minto | 16/07/2023 |
A fine circuit of five hills from the A499 at Gyrn Goch. Summited this one with Jill & Minto. Gyrn Goch / Gyrn Ddu / Moel Bronmiod / Pen-y-Gaer / Bwlch Mawr. Lovely path down through the woods to Cwmgwared. | Dangerous Dave | 16/07/2023 |
From the mast on the east side. At my age the walls were a bit difficult to negotiate and the fence lower down. Met a Dutch couple on top and now they know what a Dewey is!Solo. | bolton | 24/06/2023 |
easy park to east near mast started on row path not where map shows, stile over wall 100m west of summit of Bwlch Mawr then Gyrn Ddu and Gyrn Coch return east using row some big stone walls however plenty of breaks no need to climb | underhill | 29/12/2022 |
From Trefor for a round of Gyrn Ddu, Bwlch Mawr and Yr Eifl. | rhalstead | 29/12/2022 |
Bwlch Mawr , Gyrn Goch and Gyrn Ddu about 3 hrs 30 from parking near mast to east . Always wanted to walk these hills, but the clag was down and it was blowing a gale. Their rocky tops were quite forboding with little visibilty . And route finding a bit tricky. Must go back again in decent weather. | Mark Sims | 11/11/2022 |
From street parking in Clynnog Fawr using ROW to reach open hill side, after reaching Bwlch Mawr I crossed the stile near the summit and followed a path by the wall around the valley head not losing to much height all the way to Gyrn Ddu retracing my steps back to the start. Just under Seven mile in Four hours twenty. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 20/08/2022 |

Parked in a big layby along the road just past Pen-sarn.A very rainy day! Used the footpath all the way up, very straight forward. The summit is further back than you can see. You have to go over a wall if you want to visit the trig point. The views are probably good on a clear day. | Skarletk | 02/10/2021 |
A circular walk visiting Gyrn Ddu, Gyrn Goch & Bwlch Mawr, from the small parking area at SH 397 452. Returning via the footpath to the south. A splendid summit as commented on by others. Good stile over the big wall about 300m north of the summit. 12km with 550m ascent in 3h30m. (S) | silveracorn_alan | 17/09/2020 |

HP is blocky rock outcrop near trig; cairn S of wall is lower. Approached via muddy RoW (path) from Clynnog Fawr with interesting 7th C well and St Beunos Church. Superb sunny views of coast ,sea and wild sheep pastures | Denise | 08/04/2018 |
From Clynnog Fawr by the wet and muddy bridle way then rough grass of hillside. Excellent views from summit. | RichardM | 08/04/2018 |
Up and down from the radio mast. Anxious twenty minutes as dropped car key before half way up. Kept going though. Such is this bagging obsession. Found it. | Eddie | 10/01/2018 |

From mast at 437478 and W on Llyn Coast Path (not very clear to begin with), heading to top after first wall. Crossed wall stile in the corner to access the trig. Then on to Pen y Gaer. | milimana | 02/03/2017 |

Parked in Llanaelhaearen and climbed Gyrn Du first before coming over to this one. Came down off Gyrn Du the way I had gone up so had a long contour round till I picked up the track. All OK till you hit the mother of all stone walls near the peak. Hope they won some competitions for this one. | Father Ted | 08/10/2016 |
Parked just below mast 435478 at good space then followed ROW until it dropped slightly. Interesting direct line over rocky bluffs, went to false summit then scaled the wall to visit trig pt and ascend extra 35 cm to claim hill. We walked down W by the wall and found a wall stile- little easier than climbing the wall, and returned using the path to the mast. So clear we could make out Preseli, Wicklow, Mourne and IOM. With Pete | pwheeler | 20/09/2016 |
A difficult 3hrs walk with Christopher H in cloud over the 3 tops of the Gyrn Ddu group. The bridleway from Clynnog Fawr past Pen-yr-allt-uchaf was severely overgrown. Easier once on the fell, though no path. Wall near summit must be climbed. Easy going following wall S to ROW. | Mark Jackson | 24/08/2016 |
Parked at end of farm track for Llethr-ddu then followed row to Fron-heulog. Straight ascent to Gryn Ddu with slippery boulder hopping at end. Descended east then north and up Gyrn Goch then back and round by walls to Bwlch Mawr (best 'stile' is 100m to west). Returned by row but diverted to take in Moel Bronmiod cutting down directly to Llthr-ddu on descent. | SS | 07/08/2016 |
Circuit including Gyrn Ddu and Gyrn Goch. Started at 438475. Followed path W in thick mist, GPS came in very handy as strayed from the path many times. Summit very rocky, fine views especially towards sea. | JamesD1972 | 18/07/2016 |

Start ~ 405487.Used Row alongside the Afon Hen to gain the hillside before following the walls up to the summit of Gyrn Goch, a somewhat sporting ascent. Moved on to Gyrn Ddu and then walls and paths to Bwlch Mawr. All the summits are rocky with great views, took a direct descent to follow forest edge to meet outward route. With Wombourne. | steve hudson | 21/04/2014 |
Parked at GR 405487, room for several cars on section of old road. Took path alongside stream through wood eventually out onto open hillside. Climbed extremely steep grass hillside by wall to Gyrn Goch then on to Gyrn Ddu. Continued to Bwlch Mawr. Excellent views. Descended to edge of forest eventually joining outward route back to car.
