Parked at the Gilfach Nature Reserve Welcome Gateway car park (by donation) to the SE just off the A470. Followed the Reserve's post marked Yr Wylorn trail opposite the parking (although it doesn't actually go to Yr Wylorn). Where the trail starts to descend follow animal tracks N across moorland along the eastern edge to Yr Wylorn top, crossing a bwf. From the top a clearer path descends to the ROW and across to Garreg Lwyd. Visited hp and knoll. Tried to bypass Yr Wylorn on the return to the W but this was much harder work. Easier to retrace steps or continue on ROW round to the E of Yr Wylorn, as others. Overcast, chilly breeze, limited views. Solo.richard6904/06/2024
Parked by bins and a skip, a short way up the road to Bwichgwyn. Unmarked public footpaths almost all the way up to the summit. Very pleasant. With Jill.Dangerous Dave09/02/2024
Parking at WF entrance SN928739. Good tx to SN939739, then braided An Tx which faded out at taught BWF, where an extra-tall post provides wobbly support for crossingIsbjorn04/02/2024
From windfarm entrance.JGC13/01/2024
Parked in the entrance to the wind farm gate. Works being undertaken and an employee on the gate. No problem and directed to a bit of the entrance where the concrete mixer trucks wouldn't hit me! Easy walk from there.iangalbraith17/08/2023
1/3 After sleeping at Water-Breaks-Its-Neck, in thick drizzle and clag with no views. Amazing crop of field mushrooms, lots of sheep. Out up nature trail path then through very rough access land (dwarf gorse a pain), but back down right of way track - much better. Rounsfell08/08/2023
With Peterb. Started at the Gilfach Nature Reserve car park, taking the waymarked nature trail up to the Yr Wylorn highpoint. Then followed grassy pasture along wide ridge to summit. Retraced route to return.bowlesy27/06/2023

With KeithByTheC. Parked at the nature reserve car park 952713. Up marked path opposite to where path starts to descend again. Slightly downhill to edge then picked up sheep tracks to top of Tump (1 before to cross). From Tump descendedvto col and picked up ROW path through a gate then direct to summit. Returned by ROW path around lower slopes of the Tump. Then across road and picked up waymarked path oast waterfalls and along river back to car park. 5.65 miles 2hrs 20 walking time.JulieB05/10/2021
From Yr Wylorn over grassy pasture. Returned sw along right of way above Marcheini Fawr. Where RoW doubles back by cottage, carried straight on along edge of access land to meet road. Good paths on N side of river. Bridge at 959714 is no longer usable. KeithByTheC05/10/2021
A nice gentle after dinner walk up to the summit and back down the valley toward Brynamman; 5.5 miles logged.lee_philpot12/06/2021

5/6 Marilyn day. Ascent of Garreg Lwyd from the A470. Walked up the wind farm access road, past a number of turbines and along the ridge. Back the same way. Parked on the minor road nearly opposite, as it appeared as the were not keen on cars parking at the entrance. . Bright and sunny, splendid all round views from the summit. 5.6km in 1h20m. Parked at bottom of windfarm track SN928739. Says No Parking. Had tried earlier in the day and had to move on. Resurfacing work on the hill path taking place. Lots of activity. Returned after 18.00 when they had gone home. Up ROW to turbines then round onto the hill. with elizyanneGmacT19/07/2018
Came back like a silver ghost due to the dust on the wind farm track. Turbines erring creaked then eventually sprang into action.elizyanne19/07/2018
A nice walk from a sneaky parking place a few yards up the track to Bwlchgwyn, at the first hairpin. Up the track, across the field before the last gate to a gate onto the hill top. Easy grass and moss to the summit. Good views all the way, and the wind farm not visible until the summit. The people at Bwlchgwyn seemed very relaxed about my parking place, but perhaps best not to make a habit of it.Gill15/02/2018

Yr Wylorn and Garreg Lwyd from parking to south.rhalstead27/05/2017
I too parked at the wind farm entrance to NW and went up the track then along the ridge. It was so still today the blades were not turning so that's maybe why your Sunday dinner took a bit longer to cook than usual.Father Ted02/04/2017
From Dolhefa to NW. Might be better to access from SE to avoid wind farm and cutting across too many farmer's fields.twg2714/02/2017

Parked at the windfarm entrance opposite Dolgelfa Ganol. Theres a no parking sign on the one side..so i parked on the otherside. Loads of space. Followed stone track up to noisy turbines. Windy. Passed right under the 2nd one. A tad unnerving. Took track towards top then picked up sheeptrods pretty much to summit. New b/wire fence. Very windy and cold. Good views though not a fan of the turbines.headed straight for the first turbine on return. Short frosted grass.stig_nest16/02/2016
Parked on the wide part of the road at 963720. Up the track NE of parking spot up to the house at 962721 and continued up the ROW to the summit. On the way back there is a path back to the road on the NE side of the Marcheini Fawr which I wanted to explore but time was pressing.mindlessflogger20/06/2015
From Gilfach Nature Reserve, via v good track up east side of the range to Bryn Titli. Skeleton of the horse (with a startled expression?) still there.dicky05/04/2015
Parked by the locked gate of the access road to the wind farm (SN928739) – NE up access road & then SE along track before easy walking across moorland to summit. (PM,CM)gerrybowes27/10/2014

Parked close to bridge at 921738. Up service road to wind farm, turned away for Marilyn summit. This bit over, we had a good walk. Quickly picked up a good path down to Gilfach, diverted to Y Wylorn 475m for best viewpoint of day, enjoyed cake and seeing pied flycatchers, redstarts at Gilfach then onto Gamallt, a sub-Marilyn and the most satisfying climb of the day. Some barbed wire had to be negotiated on its traverse to a fp on its S side. Return via fb at 956697 almost prevented by bridge closure for repair. Check it's been done! Luckily we could ford the river- trainers for the walk on the delightful, quiet, but tarmac road were doubly useful. With brother, Pete. Fine, full day-walk in a lovely part of the Wye Valley.pwheeler05/05/2013
easy walk from the col north of the top. Look out for the sceleton of a big dead horse near the top.tallblond18/11/2012
First of 6M's on bagger trip to Builth w Jenx. Parked at road end of windfarm track and gained easily higher ground, straightforward walk to top. Cut back down more directly to start.nordicstar17/11/2012
Short walk up wind farm access track of A470, said no parking here but I did as plenty of space, up and down in an hour on a rather grey, dry morning with limited views from clear summit.Dugswell217/03/2010
Left car by main road at 945725 (13:05) and walked up zig-zag track to farm. Steeply up through yard and followed fence up toward col; branched off just before along ridge to top. Tiny cairn. Very hot day. Finished 14:20. dbb14/06/2009
Previous attempt was inconclusive as the top was shrouded in fog and I was not sure if I had been at the highest point. Electric fence just before the top was switched on although not very powerful.clivevilla12/11/2008
From NW. Good track. Top seems to be the little rocky outcrop. May be higher 20 or 30m away but 2 llamas and youngster were in the way. Was a bit of a surprise seeing them. The male walked my way mildly agressive so I cleared off!destaylor15/09/2008
