From Llanerch-Urfa. Path round back of house and then through gate into forest heading NE on path which is becoming overgrown in places. At first small stream head upstream slightly to where 2 posts marks a gap in the forest which the clear path follows upwards, crossing forest roads (some way markers) to a gate onto the moorland. Path continues to the summit.Winterfloodian02/06/2024

Nuttalls walk 11.3 in reverse. The best bits were the walk along the scenic Rhiwnant valley and the view from the cairn at Dryarn Fawr S to the whole skyline of the Brecon Beacons from the Black Mountains across to the Black Mountain. The worse bit was the thrash up to the cairn through long grassy tussocks - the atv track along the Dalrhiw ridge is a much easier walking option. A small path from the col between the two tops, largely following the old Birmingham Corporation boundary markers, leads to Gorllwyn. The mid section of the Nuttall descent from Gorllwyn is also grassy tussocks. With Gillian, Harriet and Mike for the first top and Gillian for the second.richard6910/08/2023
14.48 miles 1963ft walk ,start at Dol-Y-Mynach carpark. Gorllwyn, Carnau, Drygarn Fawr and Drum Yr Eira.stephenbuda24/06/2023
Parked at Abergwesyn community centre, plenty of parking, picnic area, toilets, phone box. Head up road NE to red post box, left up track, right onto path, across a few field and through some trees, up across to left of farmhouse and up towards beautiful waterfalls, plunge pools and many georgeous spots. Followed stream all the way up to sgwd y ffrwd, minor scramble up the rocks here, carried on following the water and crossed the stream heading up to main path to summit, not sure if we were on the main path but finally made the summit for a wild camp. Lots of rain in the night, Morning was foggy and drizzly, headed back down SE towards main path, not where map says it is, down to forest, hopped locked gate and headed west, dropped down to road/track and across through forest down to cross stream, down to devil dog house and down to road, long trudge south along road back to abergwesyn ,epic route not easy especially when carrying a heavy bag.Tribal2er29/04/2023
Parking opposite Llannerch Cawr - Drygarn Fawr (use ATV track up Dalrhiw and towards Carreg yr Ast for the easiest route by far) - Gorllwyn - parking (slightly tedious descent by Llwydnant).Mark Jackson28/10/2022
Nuttall route on ascent and via Drygarn Fawr, there's a decent track that leads from the summit of the latter down to the bridge over Nant Dyrys so followed that in descent. Awful weather.sebastiencale09/06/2022
Gorllwyn and Drygarn Fawr as per Nuttalls walk 11.3 with a varied descent to stay higher across the ridge rather than heading to the valley. Picked up an ATV track off Dalrhiw ridge leading down to the track at 890607. 11 milesJulieB27/05/2022

Exploring Mid Wales walk. Followed path up over Dalrhiw.Rob Rees12/03/2022
From the north, good ex miner's track for first 4km but then, in thick cloud, path from there was soon lost in the bog and tussocks, so hard going and top took a bit of finding. It was so bad I headed off on a good track to the SE (not on map) down into the valley south of ridge and re-ascended from there to make my way back. Time lost meant I abandoned plans continue to Gorrllwyn and Y Gamriw. Instead, drove round towards Cwmystwyth to do Pen y Garn but that also failed, the road was closed and I did ot have time before dark for the 30 mile diversion.dickscroop24/09/2021
Followed the bridleway up which was very wet underfoot, back down the farmers track. Parked in car park at Southern end of Cavan reservoirStevooo31/07/2021
Parked at the road at SN 833 555. Alternate lifestyle group at Llanerch-yrfa were as friendly as previous folk have mentioned, large dogs went mad as we passed on the PRoW. Followed bridleway to the open moor, then via Drygarn Fach & to the top. Visited the other cairn too.DanMaisieBex03/06/2021
from CP at top end of Caban Coch reservoir. fairly direct route via track and ATV track. Good view of Brecon Beacons. Return by Rhiwnant valley. Wet feet crossing streams, but interesting route back.IanHHill22/05/2021

From head of Caban-coch Res. Track on N side of Rhiwnant to old mines, then struggled to cross Nant y Carw, Blaen Rhiwnant then summit. On to Gorllwyn after.AndrewP15/12/2020
Same walk as Gorllwyn (see Gorllwyn log). Came down over Dalrhiw to rejoin bridle way and Nant Paradwys, and then to Rhiwnant.Dewi Prysor15/10/2020
From Rhiwnant parking at the end of Caban-coch Reservoir. Up the old mine tracks to exit onto Esgair Ganol. Easy going to start with but Blaen Rhiwnant consisted of peat hags and deep tussocks. Cloud free and splendid views. Return via track over shoulder of Carreg yr Ast.N.Morters27/09/2020
From the fords to the SW, taking the forest track after being scared off the footpath behind the house by the hounds of hell. Nasty snarling group of dangerous dogs.NormanW27/09/2020
Picked up on way home from Brecon Beacons. Met no-one but happy campers at the riverside parking area. Lovely desolate feel once clear of forestry.lordtonult01/09/2020

First of two tops following the ten mile nuttall route from free car parking at the southern tip of the Caban Coch reservoir at grid 90070 61630 also visiting Gorllwyn.WAYNE ROWLETT25/01/2020
Filthy day, from plantations to west, splendid isolation, immaculate bee hive. Exit south aiming towards pillar a little east of Abergwesyn, stay high, ground ok.richardrosser25/11/2019
from gorllwyn then back down on quad tracks over Dalrhiw easy walking back to car past farm Llanerch cawr watch out for farm dogsunderhill08/09/2019
From SW, track as far as possible then direct path to large cairn on nice shapely summit. Path mostly dry and distinct but there are some wet and less distinct sections. Returned on path all the way, uncomfortable bracken bash at the bottom, then at Llannerchyrfa I came to the attention of several large barking dogs leashed to the compound perimeter. If any one of them, let alone more than one, had broken away, the consequences could have been deadly serious. There was evidently something dodgy going on down there. Is there anyone out there to protect our public rights of way from aggressive zoology and botany?Topographer5705/09/2019
A two night wildcamp starting from the reservoir, up the river valley to Drygarn Fawr, across to Gorllyn and back down to the reservoir. Upland grasslands, marsh and some peat bogs. Very quiet.Taz3820/08/2019
Did this on my own and only met one person while I was having lunch at the summit. Elapsed-4hstevehiker13/08/2019

Parked just E of the bridge at 836555 to the SW. Used the forest track until picking up the bridleway at the hairpin at 845563. Bridleway here is well marked through felled area. From gate easy walking to the summit.garyhoney06/05/2019

From car park SN900616, then on to Gorllwyn. Mile upon mile of grass, wet and rough in places.Neil Midgley30/08/2018
Y Gamriw - Gorllwyn - Drygawn Fawr. From Gorllwyn - surprised to find a decent path leading between the two summits. It's clearly boggy normally but in a dry summer I could stride across the bogs without difficulty. Returned via Pant Glas which was hard going at first due to tall, dense vegetation although it got easier further down. 22.3 km in total in 4 hours 43 minutes.Herbert Anchovy28/07/2018
Reservoir CP SN901616. up the Nant Paradwys bridleway till the cross roads of the path from Gorllwyn. SN895585. then followed path alll the way to the summit. With Elizyanne 50 percent Welsh marlyins completed. back from summit via a quad track that runs all the way back over Dalrhiw to SN889606.GmacT20/07/2018
with Gmact . 50 percent Welsh Marilyns. Loved this walk up through valley and navigated the big easily due to the dry conditions. Found the two cairns fascinating. Followed quad track down and crossed at small bridge. Would use that route to go up if I was to return again - thus avoiding the bog issues!elizyanne20/07/2018
Parked just before Fords sign on O/S. Big passing place with space to park also. Up forest road before the fords, round hairpin to rejoin the ghastly tree stump strewn track at 845563. Hot, partly sunny and great views.iangalbraith17/07/2018
From parking place at SN 838556, exiting wood at SN 851563 on to the moor. Found useful quad track for most of the climb from then on. Operated ham radio on summit for SOTA.G4OBK (Phil)17/03/2018

Finally a sunny Marilyn and SIMM summit to rand my day. Huge behive cairn about four metres higher than the trig to the SWvegibagger10/08/2017
From the minor road to the SW with Shaky & Smithy. Parked just E of the bridge at 836555. Took the track to the E of Nant y Fedw which is just as well because tree felling has reduced the marked bridleway on the other side to an impassable state. Followed the first dogleg NW & should have taken the next one E to a gate leading on to the open hillside which we used in descent. Instead we tried to locate the previously mentioned path. Big mistake. Normally the sort of mess that the ground is in is not funny at all but on this occasion it was hilarious. The air turned blue behind me as the other two tripped over tree stumps & random branches & fell into flooded holes & ditches. THen they moaned at me for poor route finding. Eventually reached the fence & found a newish gate 50m to the E. The track is then quite faint on the other side until nearer Drygarn Fach where it becomes more distinct & then it was an easy ascent to Drygarn Fawr. Big open views. Returned S to track.NotReallyABagger22/07/2017
From SW as Nordicstar. Pink markers not in place so very awkward crossing felled area. Then path to summit from gate. Better route on return following good mainly dry track to SN 85202 56400, then forest tracks back to car.Lionel Bidwell13/07/2017
