After doing Rossett Pike, travelled round to Grasmere to climb Seat Sandal from Dunmail Raise. Up the steep shoulder, and back down the path by Raise Beck. Snow above 550m. Only 4 Wainwrights left to complete my fourth round. This short hike of 5km with 500m ascent took me 2 hours.silverwolf_alan23/02/2024

Dawn done on her own. Winter conditions - snow on tops and severe wind-chill but excellent visibility. Parked in layby on A591 (Mill Bridge). Walked up to the left of Great Tongue, above Hause Riggs around Gavel and onto summit. Return via cairn to west of summit cairn and then down nose - there is no footpath marked on map but it is obvious on the ground. First attempt to summit Seat Sandal was on 17th January but got 3/4 way up and abandoned as weather closed in and visibility was very poor.River-Girl19/01/2023

Great way to spend your birthday. A fantastic day running Leg 2 of the Bob Graham with Brett and Mark. Cloudy throughout the day, with soft snow and some ice on the tops, visibility very poor, but not bad enough to need to take bearings. One missed top (Watson’s Dodd) so had to recip. Very tough section, out and back to Fairfield, wanted to give up! Jonesy ran out of water but decided not to mention this to us. 5hrs 41minutes for the leg, with a distance of 15.5 miles so not in the right ball park to take on the full challenge...yet. Cough head, great Dodd, Watson’s Dodd, stybarrow Dodd, raise, white side, helvellyn LM, Helvellyn, nethermost pike, dollywaggon pike, Fairfield, and seat sandal.Jim Baz17/11/2019

It was an early start from Glenridding. I parked for £3 in the Sports field and headed up the lane, before turning left to the path up to Birks. There were still Bluebells out and the views down to Ullswater were superb as there was a thin layer of mist in the valley. It was a slog to the summit of Birks before it became easier to St Sunday Crag. Nice to have it to myself on this summit and the views were stunning. I descended to Deepdale Hause and cut around Grisedale Tarn to the steep climb to Seat Sandal. The views West were great in the soft rather misty light all the main peaks were a dark silhouette against the milky sky. I headed north and straight up the wall to the cairn at the edge of the cliffs on Dollywaggon Pike. It was then an easy walk over Nethermost Pike and on to the summit of Helvellyn where I had 5 minutes on my own. I continued along Striding Edge which was much easier than I imagined with no difficulties to the summit of High Spying How.isabelle01/06/2018

The most wonderful weather . . . warm sunshine and clear blue skies! Also, the snow which had fallen earlier in the week. From Grasmere via Tounge Gill and Grisdale Tarn. We traversed around the tarn - slowly because the snow was quite deep and approached the summit from the north . . . a difficult climb through knee deep spring snow but the view from the top was magnificent! Descended via the SW shoulder. An amazing day where the fells looked their best.apshepherd25/03/2017

Continued upwards to Sunday Crag, Fairfield, Seat Sandal, down to Grisedale Tarn, back up to Dollywagon Pike, Nethermost Pike, Helvellyn, Lower Man, and down via Birkhouse Moor. Good weather, enjoyable route.meltdiceburg06/08/2013

A path leads from Dollywaggon Pike to the eastern end of Grisedale Tarn, but the Nuttalls say that this is badly eroded, so I headed straight down very steep grass to the col between Dollywaggon Pike and Seat Sandal. This descent was the most tiring part of the day. Ahead was Seat Sandal, to its left Fairfield and then the long ridge of St Sunday Crag. Seat Sandal involved a re-ascent of 600 feet. I climbed it with reasonable speed. I descended the same way, and then took the delightful path gently winding through Grisedale.peter4lc19/07/2013

Another great family walk. We dragged dad up Helvellyn by the more difficult route, following the Ghyll, rather than on the track. That was Max's idea, but I went along with it. Dad was complaining all the way up. It was foggy on the summit of Helvellyn but, by the time we reached Nethermost Pike, the sun was out and we got some incredible views of Striding Edge. Solo. After ascending Helvelyn and Dollywaggon Pike starting from Stanah Cross. From the summit of Helvelyn I went over the summits of Nethermost Pike and High Crag to reach Dollywaggon Pike. From Dollywaggon Pike I descended on the path towards Grisedale Tarn, but then went SW to the col at 574m. Ascended to the summit of Seat Sandal. I met a few people on Seat Sandal. Continued to Fairfield and down to Rydal. Just missed a bus so walked to Ambleside. The day was cold with a little rain. There was a little lying snow on the highest parts with a cornice on the NE face of Helvellyn.pwbellarby01/04/2006

On the BG. I have a great photo of me before this climb at Dunmail half way round at 9pm at night, on schedule, sitting in vest and shorts, surrounded by friends /suupporters, smiling with my socks off tucking in to a pan of stew and carrots (disgusting at first -then lovely!)followed by rice pudding. Set off after just 12 mins of the 20 allocated (8 min gain on the 24 hour schedule) However felt drained of energy and so slow crawling up here escorted on this night leg to Threlkeld by Mike F (just up from London). Once the food kicked in on Fairfield my energy levels zoomed back up but this was a low tough moment where time seemed to be slipping away -as it has been for so many after the psychological half way pointChris Pearson27/06/1992

Steve worn out from the walk yesterday. Me and Rick suffering hangover from the late night in pubs in Glenridding. Rick and I were dropped off at Kirkstone Pass and set off up Red Screes, soon lost the hangover. Pond skating on the pools on the top. Little Hart Crah, Dove Crag, Hart Crag, Fairfield, down and up onto Seat Sandal. Descended in dark. Had great pub crawl that night ending up gate crashing a yuppee party at Glenridding Hostel where me and Roy slept. On our return to the tent the next morning, Steve and Rick were frozen as was the tent and the brown ale!Mark T02/12/1989
