From Foel Figenau via the slight rise of Moel Cerigduon, pasture all the way. Pasture summit. High point unmarked. Skylarks singing slight N wind, banks of cloud forming on the sides of mountains to the SW | RichardM | 06/05/2024 |
Parked at road end at 913 303 and followed route as per GB &AS for Lledwyn Mawr, Foel Figenau, Cefn Coch and to Foel Tyn-y-fron. Much quicker on return leg aided by short route through trees to forest road. Hard going beyond Cefn Coch. | PeterD | 20/04/2024 |
4/4 - cont E to summit - better path on ground. Close encounter with herd of cows - keen to run towards me. Now dark. opted to head for valley and walk back up road - access issues here, Lots of new fences, and the FP around Bryn-melyn had an ominous footpath closed sign. Managed to escape to road down the access track and fortunately wasn't challenged. Road yomp back to car | wychwood | 30/03/2024 |
Foel y Geifr [S8545] > Cefn Coch > Foel Figenau > Moel Cerigduon > Lledwyn Mawr from GR: SH 94613 27319 | ronaldo333 | 25/02/2024 |
After refuelling myself in Bala, mustered the energy for another walk. 15:00, 20 degrees(!) sunny, lovely valley. gerrybowes route but instead of taking the public footpath to the ridge, I carried on up the forestry road to the narrowest point in the forest at SH90858 29215 and walked easily through the mature plantation, keeping left of some fallen trees. I was just thinking how similar it was to the Southern Uplands when the twin spires of Aran Fawddwy popped up over the horizon and with the best will in the world, there's no sight like that in lowland Scotland. On to Foel Figenau. | Wycombe Wanderer | 10/10/2023 |
Followed the GerryBowes route. | Moorponder | 03/07/2023 |
Parked at the end of the public road at SH 913 303. Followed GB's splendid route up the forest road, then a short ascent by the old fence posts at up ride/stream from SH 908 292 to the open ridge. Then nice walk along the ridge visiting Lledwyn Mawr, Foel Figenau to Cefn Coch; then a tough section through the heather to Foel Tyn-y-fron. Return retraced route, skirting Foel Figenau on south side, and then into the wood at the kink NE of Moel Cerigduon, along a channel between two rows of trees to the forest road. 16km with 660m ascent, taking me 5h 30m. | silveracorn_alan | 08/04/2023 |
From Llanuwchllyn for a round of Foel Tyn-y-fron, Cefn Coch, Foel Figenau and Lledwyn Mawr. | rhalstead | 08/01/2023 |

Pre-pub evening ramble with Wedgy. Taking in Lledwyn Mawr, Feel Figenau and Noel Maes-y-llech. Lots of sheep. ROWs pretty much non-existent. | summitter | 29/05/2022 |
from 9122 3035 up forest track turn right over bridge tracks to 9084 2915 through plantation mature trees up fence to Lledwyn Mawr fence line and direct to moel Figenau fine hill no views return via 9114 2863 through mature plantation to forest track return same track 8ks 2hrs 30 mins easy nav | underhill | 05/08/2021 |
From the side of the track (91230 30341) near Fedw and used the tracks to reach the fire break which leads onto open hillside, Lledwyn Mawr, round to foel Figenau and then a rather tedious heather bash to Cefn Coch and Foel Tyn y fron. Had to retrace my steps all the way back as I could not locate a forest track that would have made a loop of the walk. Five and a quarter hours for Nine and three quarter mile. | WAYNE ROWLETT | 19/06/2021 |
Parked 913304. Forest track to high point then through trees (easy going) to open fell. Foel Figenau and Lledwyn Mawr. (Track immediately above Fedw no longer exists). | PGCE | 19/08/2020 |
Continued along forest edge from Foel Figenau. With R and B. | jenx | 27/06/2019 |

Parked at 912303. Track to Fedw before finding forest road. Up an easy ride at 907292 before the open moorland. Solo. Headed to Foel Figenau. | bolton | 06/09/2017 |
Parked at the lane-end below Fedw - plenty of parking at SH 91230 30359. Took Des Taylor's route to the summit. The wide firebreak from the forest road starts at SH 90840 29152, emerging on open hill-side at SH 90728 29163. Continued to Foel Figenau. Solo. | Man of Kernow1 | 31/12/2016 |
From Figenau. Easy fence following excercise to within a few paces of top. A stroll towards the sliver of Llyn Tegid opens the view out a bit more. Rhinogs also visible. Continued along fence and then through the trees easily back to track | stig_nest | 16/06/2016 |
Parked at end of minor road at 913303 (Space for 3 or 4 cars) - Forest road to ride/stream bed at 908292 - Followed old fence posts up ride to ridge - Lledwyn Mawr - Foel Figenau - Cefn Coch - On return, skirted to S. of Foel Figenau & crossed the BWF where it kinks NE of Moel Cerigduon - An easy walk through trees to small quarry in clearing at high point of forest road. Anti-clockwise round of the four Deweys. 8 miles and almost all off path including a lot of heather/bilberry bashing. 3 1/2 hours. | clivevilla | 12/08/2015 |
Parking possible by Rhyd-y-bod farm. Lledwyn Mawr, Foel Figenau, Cefn Coch (plenty of rough pathless heather) Foel Tyn-y-fron (relentless pathless heather) Moel Maes-y-llech (right of way through forest is obliterated but was able to detour through new plantation to SW as far as track then over felled section to point where public right of way emerges from the forest). | ijpowell | 16/07/2015 |
From Llangower station. | mad max | 22/10/2014 |
Last Dewey on a round of the four east of the main Aran ridge. | chriswatson | 11/07/2014 |
Last hill on the longest day ever hillwalking. I reached the summit area in the dark and although it looked the highest point, the summit area is pretty flattish. According to my gps log I missed the summit by a smidgeon. My route was from Llangynog to Llanuwchllyn via Moel Dimoel, Cyrniau Nod, Cefn Gwyntog, Stac Rhos, Pen Y Boncyn Trefeilw, Pen Y Cerrig Duon, Foel Goch, Trum Y Gwragedd, Foel Y Geifr and Foel Figenau, navigating the last two miles from Lledwyn Mawr to Felindre farm B&B just outside Llanuwchllyn, in the dark, now that was an experience. I will be back to make sure of the summit some other time. | Dazingdale | 06/05/2014 |
From Llanuwchllyn over Lledwyn Mawr and Fowl Figenau before hitting the Berwyn heather! Then out to Foel y Geifr before trudging back over Cefn Coch to Foel Tyn-y-fron. The descent was more pleasant! | SS | 08/03/2014 |
Part of a great circular walk including Foel Goch and is-afon with a start/finish point of 913303. | JohnStoneham | 05/05/2013 |
Hard through the heather to the summit of Foel Tyn-y-fron from Bwlch y Pawl. Over Cefn Coch, Foel Figenau (steep) and then Lledwyn Mawr. Dropped down to Bryn melyn and back to Coed Tyn-y-fedw to the start point at SH 90249 26527. | MikeM | 04/05/2012 |
Easy parking at end of road to NNE. Cross the bridge and then gate and turn Right - not left towards the house - follow path until meet the wide forest road. A break in the forest(lost coords but I think 9087 2918) gets you out of the trees into open land | destaylor | 01/03/2012 |
came from the forest road to the N.E. There is a fire break you can easily walk through at SH 908 292 | DARRENG | 22/08/2011 |
Steep grassy pull up from Afon Fechan. | Smudge | 14/03/2010 |
Start~ 912303 Crossed brook and followed the track into the forest,at main forestry road went south west and followed it to 908292.Then west following an old fence though trees to the open fell. Then south to Lledwyn Mawr summit. With Wombourne and Ron. | steve hudson | 26/11/2008 |
