6/8 and heading into the forest next with 1hr 30mins before dark at 5pm -should make it back in time? The hill name applies to the long steep crag towering over the Pass of Bander to the N. Marked on the OS map is McFayden's Cave -a slight overhang in a rocky gully -prominent when viewed from the north. McFadyen was an Irish adventurer who assisted the English in the Scottish wars of Independence. After being beaten in battle by William Wallace at the Pass of Brander he sought refuge in the 'cave' but being there discovered, taken out & killed. This history was all taken from Mackay's Guide, 1897, whose accuracy may not be the best as it goes on to state Ben Cruachan towers upwards for 43,650 feet!!Chris Pearson10/11/2023
Followed the private road from the Ballimore entrance CP, detouring along an ATV track to Cnoc Lomain, over a field gate to its North Top, through a sheep fank and up a sheep trod to Barr a' Ghlaoigh Mor, then another ATV route up to Creag Thulach. Approached Meall an Fhithich from the SE, initially following a fence line up to Lochan na Cuaig. A meandering route over to Creag an Aonaich then SW to pick up a faint track through the adjacent forestry. A reasonably wide break aids access to Cnoc Lochan a' Bhealaich then its back to the minor track, which becomes a proper stone track further west, until SE of Cnoc Lochan a' Bhealaich. I followed a fence line then demolished wall until S of summit then up through first long grass then conifer crawl to the summit. The final hill of the day was the much more straightforward Cnoc Dubh Loch, although a deer fence clamber was still required before reaching grazed grass. Returned to car along the B845, getting on to it from Barachander Farm. Lovsummitter30/10/2023
5th tump of 12 on a traverse from Taynuilt to the Taychreggan hotel climbing Cnoc Ichrachan, Tom nan Aighean, Creag Bhainneach and Cnoc Lochan a' Bhealaich. Descent to deer fence but easily climbed over at transition from stone wall to bog standard deer fence. Climbed a series of knolls leading upto the top with grandstand views to the Munros across the loch. Beautiful views. Continued heading East towards Meall an Fhitich but stopped beside two large boulders for lunch en-route...Dazingdale05/05/2019
After Meall an Fhithich. Through wired-up gate at NN 056272, then along ridge to highest point. Spectacular views, especially down to Pass of Brander and the Awe Barrage. Descent to south of Lochan a’ Bhealaich. Cnoc Lochan a’ Bhealaich tantalisingly close, but other side of impenetrable deer fence, which had to be followed south to the Dubh Loch.mainnirnamfiadh25/05/2016
