Parked in the layby on the A590. At first it was difficult to find the track through the wood. The problem is that in summer conditions it is overgrown with brambles and bracken. The gates at both ends opened conveniently but it seems that the track is rarely used. The summit offers good views.JohnW16/07/2024

Should I? Shouldn't I? Only 23 mins until planned rendezvous at 9.30 am with Selwyn in Greenodd, to collect orienteering dibbers. I did. Fast up form N bound layby over gate and rough track. Faster down. Made it on time. What is the story with the 'island' house here around which the hideously busy main road divides either side? How noisy must it be living there? Did they refuse to sell? Earlier I failed to cross the road/ tree barrier from S bound layby picnic site -where steps lead down to the thick treacherous mud of Morecambe Bay with warning signs about sinking mud & quick sand.(so why have steps?)Chris Pearson16/04/2024
From SD 31390 81716, track, unlocked gate SD 31173 81720, sheep pasture. Look at view. Return.Martin R09/01/2024
From very convenient layby just north of where road splits on west side of A road, at track start. Follow track up to gate then onto grass pasture. Dark. Raining. Mad. Grased over cairnDenise 30/12/2023
From the big layby to E. Look for dropped kerb showing the start of track to gate. Zag back left round the electricity pole. Track peters out, but gate in wall by fallen branches gives access to upper fields.Minto30/12/2023

From lay-by on A590, up track to gate and followed track up to another gate into summit field. Up to top in pasture on very wet day with no views.PeterD28/12/2022
Same route as Moorsman. Lovely views on a warm sunny day.Alan Caine12/06/2021
I can confirm that there is definately a track starting at the northern end of the layby on the main road. This passes through an open gate and goes uphill to a gate into the summit field. Turn left and just head uphill to the top. A doddle,moorsman14/05/2021
Parked in the hamlet of Arrad Foot and used the footpath half way up the hill. Through first gate, then along rhs of wall, to a gate on left which takes you into the same field as the summit. Just wander up till you reach the woodland and head over to summit. Very pleasant and easy with fab view.nickywood107/11/2020
With Jo, from Hollin Hall on a warm, sunny afternoon. Nice view.amblerbob24/08/2020
Awkward parking on verge just south of Hollin Hall, then up pasture to summit. In full view of farm but no-one seemed botheredColin Crawford03/03/2019
Straightforward from NW. The Old Man of Coniston impressive from this angle.Wycombe Wanderer20/01/2019
Roadside parking a bit N of the Hollin Hall turning. Field gate and 2 stone walls to negotiate. Night ascent, last of 15 for the day.jonglew04/12/2018
8th and penultimate tump of the day on a 33.37km route from Cark station to Ulverston, climbing Mount Barnard, Ellerside, Old Park Wood, Reake Hill, Stribers Brow, Grassgarth Heights and Newby Haw, descending to follow the footpath skirting the Estuary, over the footbridge at Greenodd and the busy A590 to climb up steeply through the woodland following the Northern edge, over the fence into pasture for the steep climb up over one wall before reaching the summit knoll. Nice Hill! Descent South to a gate and onto the busy road, heading for Great Oath Hill....Dazingdale30/03/2018
