As Nordicstar, went early to avoid any suspicion, uneventful top, had a walk around, a bit spooky these places | matty1971b | 05/05/2024 |
No sign of activity on the Barden Fell side of the road so parked opposite and wandered up without seeing anybody. Lots of activity in the valley the other side of the road with load bangs, smoke and green smoke. Slightly spooky bagging a hill with such sound effects. | clivevilla | 20/03/2024 |
Quick up and down from the gate at SE 1365 9694. Evening visit, no military activity. | PGCE | 18/05/2023 |
Barden Fell from GR: SE 13653 96941. All quiet. | ronaldo333 | 13/04/2021 |
From nordicstar's gate. Drove within a couple of hundred yards of the summit many times during my childhood, but for some reason my parents never stopped to bag it. | mae | 25/12/2020 |
16.55 bagging by dusk, just to be a bit competitive at the beginning of January. Army training ground. Wild area of many long water filled holes perhaps dug out by tank tracks. | vegibagger | 02/01/2019 |
Area not in use for training today and was occupied by a flock of curious sheep. | cjo | 01/01/2019 |
Big tank arrived as I left the summit. Obviously I lived to tell the tale. | Martin R | 01/03/2017 |
Parked up on road by gate at SE 136969. The hill was quiet, and as no 'keep out' sign, just 'Military training area' I wandered up the track to hill top, not seeing anyone I strolled to where the trig had been before going back to car. Uneventful. | nordicstar | 17/12/2014 |
No flags flying so I parked at the main entrance to the south (the trees have all been newly planted and surrounded by barbed wire if you try it from the road). Easy walk from here but had to make sure of the top by walking several possibilities. | moorsman | 05/12/2014 |
At 2nd attempt. On an earlier sunday morning visit coach loads of soldiers were disembarking for training on the area -so thought better of it. Even on my 2nd visit there was 'something going on' with checkpoint marshals further down the road. Luckily I snuck in over a fence and across tank tracks and mounds without being seen - although of course if their camouflage was doing its job .. who knows? | Chris Pearson | 15/05/2012 |
Combed the area when looking for the nearby but non-existent Hipswell trigpoint. | Aye Jimmy | 01/07/2008 |
