From Kirkton of Collace where there is good parking at the school. Over Bandirran Hill, Dunsinane Hill and Black Hill. Just followed high ground & numerous paths. On to Buttergask Hill and Gask Hill. Enjoyable 19km walk, 600m climb. | Lynnebe | 31/05/2023 |
Dunsinane and King's Seat, Collace (Walkhighlands route) | hummusg | 29/05/2023 |

400th Marilyn | davefh | 30/03/2023 |
Managed to park wholly on verge by wood, 25m NE of track to Balmalcolm - NE along road & then track past Fairygreen to gate by reservoir - Continued ESE to another gate. Ignored the more obvious ATV track & headed ENE on a faint ATV track to Lionel Bidwell's grid reference NO 21827 32878 - From here, an obvious ATV track heads up W. ridge before a short climb ENE up path to summit. | gerrybowes | 20/09/2022 |
From Collace. Room for 3 neatly parked cars. My first dry day this week. Tried yhe day before from a southerly start. Foiled by waist high weeds growing all the way across a path marked on o s map. | VerySlowPlodder | 30/06/2022 |
From the North, easy walk up, alone | tallblond | 27/05/2022 |
We managed to park one car on the verge just uphill from the tower and then drove round to Collace in the other car. Traversed the three hills and descended to the track on the east leading back to the road. | KevPalmer | 18/05/2022 |
A circuit of Dunsinane, Black Hill and King's Seat from the bend in the road SE of Collace. A path leads to Dunsinane, where amateur archaeologists in the 18th and 19th centuries have left a mass of grassed over diggings in the SE half of the hill fort. The path continues to Black Hill and the strange device on its summit and on past a lochan with two islets with trees to King's Seat. From there a path SW leads to a vehicle track descending west towards the Dun Burn. I crossed to the spur of land between its tributaries, where a style leads to vehicle tracks and open gates south of the two woods. A final BWF can be easily crossed at its corner near the start point. | Nick Down1 | 15/04/2022 |
As per the jack rustles in fading light after plenty of rain. Not the best experience and will definitely have another day out! 8km in 2 hrs | Nicky C | 12/11/2021 |
Dunsinane Hill - Black Hill - Kings Seat from Collace on a baking hot day. Brilliant views but far too much up and down between hills for my liking! Back via ATV track and fields to sadly a barbed wire fence only meters from the car! Back up hill in field to gate at the top and back onto footpath. (NO 20905 32016). Totally shattered at the end. | thejackrustles | 16/07/2021 |
From Collace (parking at Kirkton of Collace as there was a group of us in separate cars - covid). Cloud had lifted a bit by the time we reached Kings Seat but still not good.
A heathery lump though we probably didn't go up and down the easiest of ways. | Fife Walking | 10/07/2021 |
From Start of Dunsinane Hill Fort track, room for about 4 cars Dunsinane Hill, Black Hill, Kings Seat, then ATV track down to Fairygreen and back along road. Nice set of hills fairly easy going with paths most of the way around. | JulieB | 15/06/2021 |
Last of day after Dundee tops and Craigowl trio. Knackered - didn't even visit fort. | iangpark | 30/03/2021 |
Walk from Collace to Dunsinane Hill, Black Hill and King's Seat | PsyCrow | 14/07/2020 |
Parked at Fairygreen Farm to West - no one home to ask - loads room. Track to gate at NO 2173 3285. Then half left over grass to pick up correct atv at NO 21806 32869. A misleading but distinct path/cow trod goes straight ahead from the gate but peters out | carole engel | 12/10/2019 |
From Collace, at road bend, NO207321. Up path to Dunsinane hill fort, steep drop to col, then up thin path to pt360. From here to summit the 'path' became indistinct every time it encountered challenging vegetation. 1.5 hrs to top. Substantial ATV track passes 100m SW of summit - this leads easily and quickly down to Fairygreen Reservoir at NO216328. Track and tarmac back to Collace - very much easier than over the tops. | Isbjorn | 24/06/2019 |
Parked on lane near Collace - Took straight gorse lined path up to Dunsinane Hill (as mentioned in Shakespeare's Macbeth). Black Hill next thinking this was Kings seat alas no as a heavy shower finds us, just a TV dish up here. Kings Seat with its White trig a bit further. On through the heather. Summit bagged we drop crossing Den Burn and skirting Black Hill. On last climb though to explore the hill fort on Dunsinane Hill before returning to the car. | briandavies | 27/04/2019 |
Pleasant stroll from Fairygreen to NW on ATV track all way to summit. | willyross | 11/04/2019 |
From Black Hill. Continued NE to the bealach, then on a bit of a path around the SE flank of the hill and north to the summit. To descend, returned to the bealach and took frozen cattle tracks down the south flank of Black Hill to the B 953. Then minor road NW past Collace Quarry back to the car. Solo. | Man of Kernow1 | 14/12/2018 |
Parked near Collace at NO 207 321, then walked up to the Fort on Dunsinane Hill, and along the undulating ridge to King's Seat. Returned along the lower ground to the north-west of the ridge, past the edges of the woods to the path back to the start. | martin_hall | 04/11/2018 |
3 of 3: From Black Hill. With Sam. | ChrisR | 05/09/2018 |
Climbed with Ali & Matthew. Great weather. First big walk with Matthew in carrier, he was singing to himself on the way down. | electricfox | 05/08/2018 |
From Collace via Hill Fort and Black Hill. Good path to hill fort. Beyond, there are vague paths through heather following the ridge top and where there aren't paths there are boggy areas without heather which make for relatively easy walking. Great Views all around. | raffemeister | 23/05/2018 |
From bend in road near Collace no207321. | BLACKHILL | 24/03/2018 |
Mad witch set off along the wind turbine track in heavy snowfall, as this gave the only feasible parking on a very snowy road. From the windmill to the field gateway, across the next field, over the BWF and electric fence (easy), through the gate and up the hill. Various bits of ATV track and animal tracks eased the passage through the heather. Hubble bubble, toil and trouble. | Gill | 14/12/2017 |
From road corner SE of Collace, tracks up to Dunsinane Hill, then following ridge along to Black Hill and King's Seat, descent to NW, eventually reaching the track S of Ledgertlaw (after an fence or two), followed track and roads round back to Collace | kdbennett | 01/10/2017 |
Weather fair. | MountainMac | 03/06/2017 |
With Dunsinane Hill and Black Hill. | Chris Peart | 24/05/2017 |
On Day 12 of TGO Challenge. | Phreerunner | 23/05/2017 |
Third summit from Dunsinane to Gask Hill. | summitter | 30/04/2017 |
Made an excellent walk from Collace- parking space at info board for Durisdane Hill to which there's a good path. If you go SE from the top, you meet a grassy ramp to the col but I retraced to get to the col and only noticed the ramp as I started to ascend Black Hill. Managed to find trodden paths to the col below King's Seat, more hit and miss for the last climb. Descent by major ATV track used by others to Fairygreen, then quiet roads back to start. All three hills are worthy of a pause for appreciation but its Durisdane Hill that's the one with the most interest for inner historian and fires the imagination. Excellent views, especially of Schiehallion to Ben Lawers, today. | pwheeler | 25/03/2017 |
From south between Balloleys and Stockmuir large Layby near access track to the single wind turbine. Took track to avoid farms, then field edges round coppice to open hillside. | N.Morters | 23/03/2017 |
From bend in road just south of Collace. 207321. Parking 2/3 cars. Over Dunsinane and Black hills, snowy, cold wind, dry and some sun. Good views. | iangalbraith | 29/01/2017 |
Took track through Fairygreen Farm, mentioned by pwbellarby, then easy buggy track to just south of summit. On ascent aim for NO 21827 32878. Parked SW of farm track by wood. | Lionel Bidwell | 03/10/2016 |
Parked at the red gate at 230319. Followed fence uphill past aggressive calfs to an open gate on the right. Kept fence on my left to corner near crags. There is a small stile 100 to the right for easy access onto heather and long grass. Make your own route from here. 55 minutes return over 1.75 miles. Solo on a hot day! | bolton | 24/08/2016 |
From Collace via Dunsinane and Black Hills. White trig pillar on summit. Avoided heading back over the tops, by-passing to the north. Clear conditions, but thunder clouds starting to amass for later in the afternoon. | Windy Corner | 22/05/2016 |
Beautiful day, hurrying. From layby at NO244324. Up via Stockmuir, back via turbine path. | Rounsfell | 05/05/2016 |
No easy path to summit but worth the climb - great views | menmuic | 29/03/2016 |
Solo, from red gate to the south. | amswanston | 17/01/2016 |
With Jenx from minor road to south. Parked at red gate GR229310. Up field to gate, thru that and followed LH fence to high corner by small crag. From there pick a line to top via heather and grassy moor. Great viewpoint, watch the electric fences, avoidable. | nordicstar | 02/12/2015 |
Up to the gap between the hills. Mostly easy except for one fence crossing. Straightforward from there. | jenx | 02/12/2015 |
Dunsinane Hill, Black Hill, Kings Seat and Buttergask Hill from Collace on sunny afternoon. Descent in dark. | RobertP | 31/10/2015 |
First. From Collace. | Waterlog | 15/09/2015 |
I got to park at Stockmuir, ESE of the top. I followed the marked track heading NW, easily at first. However, the track soon became very overgrown but only for a couple of hundred yards. Splendid top. | aul-fogie | 01/07/2015 |
Linear route over Black Hill and King's Seat.
