As bolton. From layby on bend, W. along fairly busy road for about 300m to start of track on W. side of a recently renovated & extended property - Over locked gate & then two more gates, the first of which was locked, before turning left through an open gateway to pasture summit. | gerrybowes | 17/11/2023 |
As others, Parked in the layby by the sharp bend in the road. First visited the nearby trig, then walked along the busy road to the last house, and was given permission to walk up the track, then across 2 fields to the summit. | silveracorn_alan | 03/12/2022 |
From Winter Hill. Blackburn complete. | Andrew Pearson | 08/04/2022 |
As bolton. It looked like I was going to have to climb a wall with an electric fence on top but luckily the summit did not quite require that. | clivevilla | 11/03/2022 |
Parked on the bend near the trig which I visited through a muddy field.
Signs telling walkers to keep away on path east side of farm so went up a track on west side of derilect building and over 2/3 gates to top. | bolton | 19/11/2020 |
Lay-by near Trig Point, south down main road, west across public footpath, asked at farm for permission, but was denied, because there was no footpath through that field and it contained livestock, was told to head down track to main road (i.e. sod off?). Walked by to observe sheep in field. Closest I could get was main road to the north. | David84 | 11/07/2020 |
Approached from bend on Bog Heights road to motorway bridge then up through a few gates took a longer route than expected due to horses at first gate | colinfielding | 27/05/2020 |
From west on FP, on a wet day, met farmer at barn who gave me permission to go to top, via gate. | PeterD | 24/09/2019 |
Via path/track to SW. What's this about the path being closed? I have my doubts. | Wycombe Wanderer | 11/04/2019 |
Approached from the SW but people in the fields so retried from the north. Shorter and easier. | moorsman | 09/03/2019 |
Good parking to the ENE at road corner SD672247. | David Evans | 25/02/2019 |
From layby at bend in road to NE. Stile into field just down hill is almost overgrown. | mart0797 | 14/02/2019 |

Early Sunday morning. Parked in farm road entrance and walked along past houses in Bog Height Rd. As Chris Bien. Very large inquisitive horse. | Campbell Singer | 02/09/2018 |
Started walk from the Royal Arms in Tockholes and made our way by Roddlesworth Reservoir, to cross the M65 to the Tump, then it was onto the Trig Pillar of Fernhurst Hill, and back across the M65 to the Tump of Winter Hill, then easy stroll back to Tockholes | Wayne Mac | 22/06/2018 |
P on Bog Height Rd just W of sharp corner. Track alongside house and through 2 fields. | chrisbien | 07/12/2017 |
1st hill of 5 from Mill Hill station climbing up to nearby farm having explored Trig 1st and said Hello to the Highland Coos with back yard full abandoned stuff. Climbed over tall wall to explore summit; pretty vague but patch of coarse grass seemed highest. Checked adjacent field but was no higher, continuing on to Hoghton Tower. | Dazingdale | 16/09/2017 |
With Rosie | Longwojo | 28/05/2017 |
From large lay by (easy access to trig) track at side of last house, over gates to top. | Bramley | 26/05/2017 |
A lovely sunny day out with Dad on a nostalgic trip down memory lane from his days of growing up in Blackburn. He waited in the car looking out over his home town for the 15 mins I took along fp from east to top and back. 3 piles of earth/ stone now crown the summit and are becoming grassed over -the highest conical one succumbed to a run at it. Also to trig by car park layby. | Chris Pearson | 27/03/2017 |
Parked at lay-by near Fernhurst Hill trig, then took footpath from south-west of top(this path is almost blocked as fence has collapsed). Not very exciting. | catman | 14/03/2016 |
With Jo, circular walk from Roddlesworth Information Centre: paths to Winter Hill, then onto Fernhurst Hill Trig, then followed David Gradwell’s route to Bog Bank, before returning along road through Tockholes. Weather; sunny, warm, good visibility. | amblerbob | 23/02/2016 |
Parked ene as DG. His RoW now claimed closed so used path from E | RHW | 18/10/2015 |
As AJ, but gate across track with private sign. Nice lady at the stud said it was ok to go through & showed me the way. Through little wooden gate by caravan & across field. | ngthack | 04/10/2015 |
Bit overgrown on the top and with dogs about it's not the most pleasant spot for a sit down. The nearby trig at 218m is worth a visit if you can tolerate walking along the fast road. | Jake994 | 14/09/2014 |
Parked to W near row of cottages on road from Blackburn - Tockholes. Public f/p to Hodden Fold Stud leads E past two farms and sign 'Beware dogs running free'. Met them, alsation and rottweiler, not too hungry today. Just before third farm went up grass slope to flattish area at head of field near junction of walls, gate and lots of horses. Highest point vague. | Aye Jimmy | 26/07/2014 |
From lay-by to ENE at bend in minor road at SD 67249 24717 (near Fernhurst Hill trig). Walked west along road to track at side of last house. Up to gate (stile here) then another gate (no stile).
