Logged Descriptions  (logged by 35 users)ByDate of Ascent
I walked between Rookley and Shorwell, taking in Rookley Hill, Berry Hill and the two Chillerton Down summits. All very flat on Chillerton Down, so I had a good tramp aroundColin Crawford24/06/2024
Lovely NT open chalk scarp slope and flower rich grassland. In summer these open slopes create good thermals and are one of the 15 recognised paragliding sites on the IOW. The landing advice is Watch out for cables (of the huge mast - a landmark seen from across the IOW) - but the cables must be hard to see when in the air - so Keep to SE of fence on top. Humorous NOTE: NO BOTTOM LANDING ALLOWED in the fields. Please slope land on the hill behind the fence line. Paragliders may slope land only into wind along contours. There is no suitable slope landing for Hang Gliders. Makes hill waking seem so simple. Met a lovely collie dog charging around the grassy slopes. Then continued across to the S Top Tump around field edges.Chris Pearson09/06/2024
Easy pleasant walk from the road at SZ 48130 82977 with choices for the way back.Martin R15/10/2023
Parked at end of bridleway at road junction. Up to Chillerton Down and back to car via Chillerton Down south. Then across to Berry hill.Buck10/07/2023
Parked at bw S of Chillerton Farm (SZ 48148294)- not much space. Walked up Worsley Trail, then forked R on another bw, then easily accessed HP. The open access downland on this walk was lovely. Another bw enabled us to do the S Top as a W to E traverse- never quite too overgrown and easier on the E side. Lunch back in car, where we enjoyed a yellow hammer singing from the finger post. With Pete, sunny day but some sea mist on the S coast.pwheeler12/06/2023
