From Whitwell church after a bus ride from Newport. The dog walkers' path was very helpful and continues more vaguely along the field edges. There's then a vague vehicle track up to the reservoir. I was spooked a little when a couple of vehicles drove up ahead of me but they were workers, unconcerned by my presence. Returning to Whitwell, I made the error of taking a bus down to Ventnor, hoping to continue to Ryde. Alas, landslips in the spring have destroyed several roads in this area and Ventnor has become a bit of a trap. I was compelled to linger for an hour or more then return to Newport for a Ryde connectionColin Crawford25/06/2024
Delighted to find a good 'dog walkers' path leading up left through the woods to field margins after despairing at the sight of the overgrown mapped track branching off the row. Met a dog walker using this path on my return. Had a look around the cemetery at row top with its Commonwealth War Graves -this being the 80th anniversary week of D Day. The coastal A road below the summit (Undercliff Drive ) has been closed for 10 years . due to repeated landslips, The main road east of Vetnor has been closed since Dec due to a landslip and now another road (Graben) is about to be closed to prevent a sinkhole opening up and damaging a sewer- leaving Whitwell to be the temporarily the only way out of Vetnor with a one way system to be imposed. A very mobile coast line -good for fossil hunters, but not for motorists.Chris Pearson09/06/2024
As Minto, from Whitwell, but there was no problem with crops as there was a good field margin which wasn't overgrown. Nice viewpoint, better than expected. Fine weather, no sea mist coming on land, which had been a problem yesterday. With Petepwheeler13/06/2023
From the church in Whitwell. Where the mapped overgrown track branches left off the bridleway, there's now a path even more left, which goes up through the open woods. Might be difficult to access with a crop in the summit field.Minto14/01/2023
Train, catamaran and bus to Bonchurch and then ascended the steep path to St Boniface down then using the coastal path (and a few diversions) in muddy terrain the Whitwell hill and St Catherine's hill for a lovely day in the cold wind.Buck13/01/2023

From Whitwell church, initially along BW. Track is now overgrown but a route through the woods leads to field and tractor tracks followed across it. Then up to reservoir at top.PeterD07/07/2020
