From the nature reserve car park, across bridge forest track then uphill on path that leads up to gate. Followed fence Up to ridge then to top. | PeterD | 21/06/2024 |
Good circuit from nature reserve car park. | rhalstead | 14/06/2024 |
I followed the route well described by Gill - no problems apart from getting slightly mislaid finding the descent route from the ridge to the gate. | Chris Peart | 15/05/2024 |
Parked at Dalnatrat -969533. Up to Highland Titles, over bridge and at 977526 there is a small cairn (easily missed!) indicating the start of a steep path which leads to a gate up the hill. A faint ATV track helps to gain height from there. Great views from the summit! With CM. Just over 4 miles and 3 a relaxed 3 hours. | bolton | 22/09/2023 |
With PM. | CJM | 22/09/2023 |
Parked at Highland Titles nature reserve car park. Over Bridge up forest track. Take right fork at 982521. Then at 980517 path marked on OS map up left side of river doesn't exist, but a new track runs on the other side of river to gate at top of forest. Not far past gate take right fork and follow track to a gate in a new fence at around 969503, opposite a mini ravine. Through gate and follow path slightly left up onto ridge, then head generally up to the summit picking the best line across grassy slopes. Return same route. Interesting ridge with good views. 7.8 miles. | JulieB | 26/06/2023 |
Parked at wide entrance SW of Dalnatrat. Left main track at 97754/52603 & up a steeper track. After going through gate at top of this, onto ATV track but left it after <100 yds & up to ridge. | duchally | 03/04/2023 |
From Dalnastrat via forest road then steep path to gate at top of forest. Along small ridge on NW side of stream from 973523 to 966514 with traces of path then directly to the summit. | Winterfloodian | 08/06/2022 |
From Meal Blar Nan Lochan, no path but ok underfoot | Adrian | 30/06/2021 |
Followed Jill's instructions. Strike up the atv track 10m before a cattle grid. Very pleasant hill. | jimbloomer | 10/05/2021 |
Parked at Highland Titles (which is some sort of scheme to sell susceptible people 10 sq ft of a nature reserve). Across the bridge to the forestry track, then to end of the replanted area where the track up the hill is obvious, alongside a stream. Very steep, no idea how anyone could drive up it. Through the gate, onto the ATV track, took first left fork heading towards the end of the ridge, then a clear deer track heading left (same direction) which guides you across the stream and bogs, then steeply up onto the ridge starting with a short tongue of steep grass, then heather, grass, dwarf willow to the ridge. Easy walking on the ridge with fantastic views all the way. | Gill | 02/11/2020 |
From Dalnatrat parking possible at wide access track SW. Followed good track into woods, avoiding cars and BT openreach! Just at a end replanted section good track heads up as per Steve. Track takes you out high off the woods where a vague ATV continues beyond the gate. Picked up the north ridge and easy walk to summit. Heavy shower but otherwise fine views. | N.Morters | 24/10/2020 |
Starting from Highland Titles nature reserve car park, Dalnatrat I had intended to follow track SE, as per previous logs, around the NE shoulder and approach summit from the SE. However at NM97753 52618 there is a path entrance evidence of which can be seen higher up near the saddle which emerges at the plantation boundary fence/gate at NM97312 52277. From here it is a case of following vague atv tracks if they are heading in the right direction but generally on a SW bearing until you gain the ridge near or just past the summit. Returned starting along the summit ridge descending NW along the best line to the gate. A little more open country by this route but an overall saving of 2½ miles walking. | mntainman | 25/08/2020 |
Parked at track entrance. Few hiccups getting through woods. On my own. | alwaysinshorts | 07/03/2019 |
2 of 2: From A828 at Dalnatrat. | ChrisR | 11/01/2018 |
After Beinn Donn with MKG, then down Glen Stockdale. | Rounsfell | 04/01/2018 |
Parked at Dalnatrat, the walked along new forest road to exit forest at 973505. Up to lochans at 960505 then up enjoyable slightly rocky SW ridve to summit. Continued along ridge nearly to forest then took track (not on os map but visible on google earth) from 973523 to join inbound route at 977526. Lovely route, great walk with beautiful views. Good access from the B&B road. Right fork, then footpath onto open fell after gate. Great 360 view. | jenx | 05/01/2016 |
With Jenx, from forest track road parking at start of the hill track at 155m. Took the path to gate at 200m. Then zig zag up more or less above gate through grass and heather to ridge at 380m. Avoid direct line to summit as gets into steep ground. Along pleasant ridge on faint path for 1km to summit trig. | nordicstar | 05/01/2016 |
From Dalnatrat, up forestry track for about a mile, then turned right up a narrow and very steep vehicle track through a felled and replanted strip as far as and over a gate onto the open hill. Turned left and continued alongside the fence as far as the main ridge. | Topographer57 | 08/10/2015 |
Parked at B&B gate. Straight up to SE. Easier return from CaF (4). Breathtaking views between the lochs, sunny and cloudless. | iangalbraith | 15/03/2015 |
parked at locked gate after turning right on road to b&b, new path towards bottom of the ridge then to the the top. | robertphillips | 14/02/2015 |
Started from road end to Bealach B&B. As wanted to try Meall Ban as well walked up forest rd, but patch through forest has been obliterated, due to felling etc. Given the size of the river Meall Ban is best reached by staying in Salachan Glen as long as poss. Simplest way to BS is just to head SW from road end. Excellent view point if it hadn't been so dreich. Then Airds Hill | Thearlaichdubh | 01/11/2013 |
Track and path up Glen Stockdale and up by forest to summit, then back across to Beinn Donn. | AndrewFinnimore | 24/10/2013 |
From Dalnatrat | BLACKHILL | 10/04/2012 |
Followed new forest track until it brings you to felled area on the south flank and then up to ridge and along. With Chris Watson and two others. Wet, windy and misty. | Martin R | 19/03/2012 |
Parked at road end to NW. Followed track to the bridge on east side and cut up onto ridge. No problems. | chriswatson | 19/03/2012 |
Revisit. Grass and stones around trig; heathery hill, hardish ascent, from N. Parking at start of forest track. | RHW | 20/09/2009 |
Ascended from Dalnatrat. Good views. | JohnW | 08/04/2009 |
ran along with the other three, great views | tom smith | 14/12/2008 |
Parked near Bealach B and B in Salachan glen. On track, up glen and struck off over swamp and sheep pastures to gap in trees. Up over bracken, heather and sludge, some sheep sections and almost into gorge to climb over crags to first horizon. Slow progress over heather to drop down over stream and up to a second cross ridge. Indications of a path and footprints on final NE/SW ridge and to top at 12.15. Mizzle. | arranc | 04/09/2004 |
Up from shore along boundary line. | Eddie | 09/03/2004 |
Date is first visit. Notes from later...complex scrappy heathery slightly disappointing hill, albeit fine view to Ardgour. pumping sta(?) A828 955522, +/- direct up steep slopes via lochans to summit | RHW | 01/01/2001 |
